Government tightens norms for vegetable oil industry; makes registration mandatory

The Central Government has notified the Vegetable Oil Products Production and Availability (Regulation) Amendment Order, 2025, introducing a stricter regulatory framework for the industry. Issued by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, the new order comes into immediate effect.

Under the amended rules, it is now mandatory for any person or company producing, stocking, or selling vegetable oil, solvent-extracted oil, or related products to obtain a registration certificate. The Director of the Directorate of Sugar and Vegetable Oils has been designated as the authority to process applications and issue these certificates.
