Kate Hudson is all about family.
On Thursday, July 3, Hudson shared photos from a family vacation trip to Greece via Instagram. Hudson was in the country with her fiancée Danny Fujikawa, their daughter Rani Rose, as well as her son Bingham Bellamy (whom she shares with Matt Bellamy), her brother Oliver Hudson, his wife Erin Bartlett and their children, as well as her brother Wyatt Russell.
“Family summer 🇬🇷 We love you Greece,” she captioned the series of snaps.
Noticeably absent from the photos were Kate’s mom, Goldie Hawn, and her stepfather, Kurt Russell. Her biological father, Bill Hudson, and her mother were married from 1976 to 1982.
While speaking on the “Awards Chatter” podcast in June, Hudson revealed Kurt had once offered her a part in his 1996 movie Escape from L.A. — but she told him no.
“I went in and auditioned and got that part, and I sort of realized, ‘Oh, this is when you start to make choices that will define your career.’ And, ‘Do I want to be defined by being Kurt’s daughter who got this part? No,” she explained.
“[It doesn’t] matter if I got it because I was good enough — it would never be what people would ever think,” Hudson continued. “And I knew that and was like, ‘No, I can’t.’ So I ended up saying no to that, too.”
Even though they didn’t work together in the movie, Hudson has often cited Kurt as a source of inspiration. She told the podcast hosts that the fun she had on Kurt’s film sets as a child contributed to her decision to eventually become a bonafide actor herself.

“My dad’s sets were the fun sets,” Hudson added. “It was like Big Trouble in Little China and we had slides that would go down into rubber fish, and these amazing costumes … And the thing is, when you grow up on a movie set, it’s not that fun. [There] is a lot of waiting around, so you realize you really love it when you don’t want to get off the movie set.”
In fact, she told her parents she wanted to act when she was 11, but her mom shot the dream down.
“Performing was always something I knew I was going to do,” she explained. “There was never a question, but really falling in love with the circus was something that I don’t think all kids actually have when they’re on a set.”
