Kelly Stafford Says Her Kids Were ‘Picked On’ for Matt Stafford Trade Rumor

1 week ago 1

Kelly Stafford is getting real about how viral rumors about her husband Matt Stafford’s NFL career have affected their family.

“There was speculation of [whether] Matthew is getting traded this past year,” Kelly, 36, said on the Sunday, August 31, episode of the “Sunday Sports Club” podcast. “[There were rumors] that ‘his wife was the problem,’ and that’s part of the reason. … The kids at school were picking on them, like, ‘You’re gonna have to move because your mom is an issue, like, she’s too loud and whatever.’”

Kelly and Matt, 37, share twins Sawyer and Chandler, both 8, daughter Hunter, 7, and daughter Tyler, 5. Ahead of the upcoming 2025-2026 NFL season, rumors swirled that the Los Angeles Rams planned to trade the quarterback to another team.

“My girls came home and they’re like, ‘Mommy, are we having to move because of you?’ I was like, ‘Because of me?’” Kelly recalled to podcast host Allison Kuch. “I was, like, ‘What the f***?’ It wasn’t the Rams.”

Matt ultimately re-signed with the Rams, where he’s been the quarterback since 2021. (Matt joined the Rams after being traded from the Detroit Lions.)

“It is all fun, and every year I look forward to another season,” Kelly said. “Every year, I pray that it’s a healthy season.”

During many of Matt’s home games, Kelly and the girls watch from a private suite at Los Angeles’ SoFi Stadium.

“I will say, though, when we go to away games, we sit [in the bleachers] and I kind of like it,” she added. “My girls love to sit there. They love to see their dad, and they get to wave [and] try to get his attention, like, ‘I just want to see my dad.’”

Kelly continued, “They love it, but it is stressful. It is stressful. People will say s***, not to them, but maybe about their dad [in front of them].”

Kelly further noted her intention to take her kids to “a s*** ton” of NFL games this season.

“I’m stressed about it,” she admitted. “It’s a lot, and they’re all East Coast games. We’re playing all the East Coast teams.”

In addition to coordinating game day schedules, Kelly is already planning the family’s outfits.

“I always am telling myself, ‘This is his last year, [so] I’m going to have some fun,’” Kelly quipped. “I don’t do, like the designer-ish ones, but I do the fun ‘Stafford’ on the back and really for the girls. They can have those, and I save all these things so they can give them to their kids. Not that they’re going to want Grandpa’s [face on a] denim jacket with a painting on the back. We paid a s*** ton for it, so that s***’s getting saved somehow.”
