Kordell Beckham Had to Answer 1,500 Psych Questions for ‘Love Island USA’

Kordell Beckham detailed the psychological testing that goes into joining Peacock’s Love Island USA.

“There was a part of the process where we had to [answer] 960-something questions,” Kordell, 23, recalled on the Monday, July 14, episode of Jason Tartick’s “Trading Secrets” podcast of the psych test. “Then there was an additional 600 questions.”

Altogether, Kordell said he answered 1,500 total questions.

“It took about five hours [with the psychologist],” he noted, confirming that they ask follow-up questions. “Like, one time, I think one of the questions was if I was seeing stuff. She thought I meant I was schizophrenic or something. I just meant visions — as in the goals. She thought I was seeing dead people.”

The hit dating series originally premiered in the U.K. in 2002 before it expanded with various spinoffs, including Love Island USA on Peacock. The series follows a different group of singles, known as Islanders, every season who have to pair off in order to stay in the show’s luxury villa.

There are a multitude of rules that the Islanders follow, including being under constant video surveillance and not having access to the outside world. As a result, the cast usually isn’t privy to possible drama off screen.

The Islanders are also provided with resources, including therapy, to help as they navigate relationships in the villa and later adjust to the outside world amid their newfound fame. Beckham’s fellow season 6 Islander Leah Kateb previously told Us Weekly about her return from Fiji.

“The therapist still calls me regularly from the show,” she said in October 2024 before confirming that she worked with her own therapist outside the Villa. “If I don’t make a joke out of it, then it’ll eat me alive.”

Leah, who admitted she was “super irritable” after returning home, looked back on the show with fondness. “I definitely am really grateful [and] I do feel like everything happened for a reason,” she added.

The season 6 cast has since reunited for Peacock’s Beyond the Villa, which checks in on Kateb, Serena Page, JaNa Craig, Miguel Harichi, Kaylor Martin, Connor Newsum, Kenny Rodriguez, Olivia “Liv” Walker and Kendall Washington one year after becoming household names.

Kordell, however, won’t appear much despite his girlfriend Serena’s central presence.

“At [first] he was going to do it with me. I had fully confirmed, signed the contracts and everything, and then he got booked,” Serena told Teen Vogue on July 8. “I was very proud of him, but I was sad and it made me very anxious about filming because I was like, ‘Damn, I’m going to be alone.’”

She continued: “Granted, I have my girls, Leah and JaNa, but their men were on the show doing it with them. There were a lot of times where I was like, ‘Damn, I don’t know. We’re supposed to be navigating our relationship, but you’re about to be in a whole different state. What am I going to do?’”

Serena praised Kordell for doing “an amazing job reassuring” her that he would join her on the show when he could.

“He was like, ‘Any crumb of a chance I can get, I’m going to be on that screen with you.’ And honestly, you’re going to see a lot more of him than you would’ve expected,” she shared. “It’s maybe [only] a handful of scenes that I’ve done without him. Y’all will get to see some behind-the-scenes of me and him working together. Y’all get to see dates. He even ends up coming to Miami, too.”
