Maruti Suzuki begins production of first electric SUV 'E Vitara' in Gujarat, to be exported to 100 countries
Maruti Suzuki has officially commenced production of its first electric SUV, the E Vitara, at the Hansalpur plant in Gujarat from today. The vehicle will not only cater to the domestic market but will also be exported to 100 countries, marking a significant milestone in the company’s global EV ambitions.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the production lineup at 10 am during his visit to the Hansalpur facility. Along with EV manufacturing, the plant has also begun production of lithium-ion battery cells and electrodes for strong hybrid vehicles, strengthening India’s push towards cleaner mobility solutions.
The Hansalpur plant is fast emerging as a major hub for electric and hybrid technologies within Maruti Suzuki’s ecosystem. The event was also attended by Gujarat Chief Minister and the Ambassador of Japan to India, underscoring Indo-Japanese collaboration in the automotive sector.
This initiative is expected to give a major boost to the Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat campaigns by positioning India as a key player in the global EV supply chain.
