Leah Lewis has returned to Instagram with a sweet message for her Matlock costar after the show made headlines for David Del Rio‘s sexual assault scandal.
Lewis, 28, took to Instagram on Tuesday, October 21, to celebrate Skye P. Marshall‘s birthday, writing, “This is mama @skyepmarshall and somehow she ages backwards to the grace of beginnings, gathers wisdom as she moves forwards and manages to keep her crown on straight.” (Lewis plays Sarah on the show while Marshall portrays Olympia.)
“This life is so many things yet it has been a lesson of joy and honor seeing the blessings roll in, watching this woman walk through her purpose and some of the hardest stuff imaginable,” Lewis continued on Tuesday “You’re a life that makes people look forward to their own. I love you.”
Lewis has mostly stayed mum on social media after news broke earlier this month that Del Rio, 38, was fired following an investigation into an alleged incident. It was reported at the time that Lewis accused Del Rio of assaulting her in late September. Days later, Lewis reported the incident to CBS and Del Rio was removed from the set.
Us Weekly confirmed that Del Rio’s character, Billy, is being written out of the remaining episodes. Fellow costars subtly showed their support for Lewis by unfollowing Del Rio on Instagram amid the scandal.
Lewis, meanwhile, released a statement, which read, “Mom is here, we’re moving forward in love and strength. I’m in good hands. Thank you to everybody for any kind of support and care. Truly, we’re moving forward in strength. Key word, strength. Please, let that be the take away.”
While Del Rio has yet to publicly comment on the situation his wife, Katherine Del Rio, addressed the drama by sharing a photo of Lewis via Instagram hours after the controversy made headlines.
“This is the most disturbing human being I have ever met,” she wrote at the time. (A source subsequently told Us that Katherine is standing by her husband, saying, ” They’re a family and staying together.”)
Before the scandal, Matlock’s second season was going to focus more on David’s character, Billy’s journey to become a dad.
“I’m really excited to see how Billy handles the work balance with the personal balance of it all,” the actor exclusively told Us in May.
Lewis, meanwhile, teased the story line plans for Sarah in season 2.
“I remember reading the finale and hoping at the end that Sarah was going to get away scot free with this wonderful victory. Of course the thing happens with Simone and she might need to take accountability,” Lewis hinted during the joint interview. “To be honest, this is where we really get to see if Sarah can step up to the plate for the thing that she has been begging for, asking for and working so hard for.”
She concluded: “You want to get treated like a big dog. We’ll start acting like a big dog. I feel like this season we’ll definitely probably get to see her mature a bit more on that aspect. Her professional win is not over yet.”
Matlock airs on CBS Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET.
