Matlock's Skye P. Marshall Jokes Jason Ritter Would Be Kidnapped on 'Tracker'

Matlock‘s Skye P. Marshall has heard that Jason Ritter wants to appear on Tracker — and she has ideas about how he would fit into Justin Hartley’s hit CBS show.

After winning Breakthrough Talent at the 7th Annual African-American Film Critics Association TV Honors, Marshall spoke exclusively to Us Weekly about Ritter’s idea for a Matlock and Tracker crossover.

“Jason comes to set now, and he squints his eyes and he tries to play a rugged guy. And we’re like, ‘Can you please stop?'” she quipped. “And he’ll put his foot up on the chair and squint his eyes like James Dean. It makes my stomach crawl. I was like, ‘You’re not a rugged guy. OK?'”

Marshall would still love to see Ritter, 45, share the screen with Hartley, 48. “But I feel like he’d be the guy that gets kidnapped,” she joked. “Please don’t give Jason Ritter a gun.”

During a separate interview with Us last month, Ritter shared some ideas about his character Julian’s second act after Matlock’s shocking revelation — which could include crossing over to Tracker.

“If Tracker ever wants a partner [for Justin’s character, Colter], maybe Julian leaves the firm and he starts a new life,” Ritter shared. “Just two rugged guys.”

Ritter went on to pitch more possible crossovers, saying, “Elsbeth is right there. Not only are we on the same night, it’s the world of law. I just think it would be so fun.”

He continued: “I love Carrie Preston so much and I think she’s brilliant. I would love to see that Elsbeth energy on an episode of Matlock — or some of us over in an episode of Elsbeth,” he continued. “Sometimes they do two episodes of each show where they cross into each other. So that would be so fun. That would be my dream.”

Marshall had a similar thought about Matlock and Elsbeth.

“I want to be related to Wendell Pierce’s character on Elsbeth, since we’re both in New York,” she suggested to Us. “Maybe they need Jacobson & Moore to step in or Jacobson & Moore needs the cops to pull up. And can you imagine Carrie Preston with Kathy Bates? Elsbeth and Matlock? Their quirkiness and their awkwardness — that’s a crossover I want to see!”

Matlock, which premiered in September 2024, follows a wealthy retired lawyer named Madeline Kingston (Kathy Bates), who pretends to be a poor widower named Matty Matlock to get a job at Jacobson Moore law firm. As it turns out, Matty thinks someone at the company is complicit in the opioid epidemic that resulted in her daughter’s death.

Marshall’s performance as Olympia has won over fans and critics. It has also led to accomplishments such as the Breakthrough Talent honor at the AAFCA.

“Honestly, I’m just really emotional,” she told Us. “I’ve seen a lot of women and men here who helped me along the way when no one knew my name and no one was answering the calls. So to see them look at me and smile, I have been fighting back the tears.”

Matlock returns to CBS on Sunday, October 12, at 8:30 p.m. ET before taking its regular Thursday night time slot on October 16. New episodes will be streaming the next day on Paramount+.
