The first weekend of September is an exciting time for Netflix subscribers, since there are a lot of new TV shows and movies to choose from.
Unsurprisingly, viewers have chosen to dive back into the hit YA romance series, My Life with the Walter Boys, which has reclaimed the No. 1 slot after returning for season 2.
That’s Watch With Us‘ first pick for the three underrated Netflix shows to watch this weekend.
Our remaining choices for the week include a legal comedy that’s found a new audience on Netflix, as well as a harrowing documentary miniseries.
‘My Life with the Walter Boys’ (2023 – Present)
My Life with the Walter Boys was a sensation when it debuted in 2023. This show follows the story of Jackie Howard (Nikki Rodriguez) following the death of her parents. Jackie was taken in by the Walters family and relocated from New York to Silver Falls, Colorado. While dealing with her personal tragedy and the culture shock, Jackie developed romantic feelings for two of the Walters brothers, Cole (Noah LaLonde) and Alex (Ashby Gentry).
Season 2 picks up with Jackie being encouraged to return to Silver Falls, although her relationships with both Walters boys are in tatters. Before Jackie can settle on who she wants to be with, she has to decide who she wants to be and how she can find her place in her new home. There’s plenty of time for romance, heartbreak, and potential tragedy after that.
My Life with the Walter Boys is streaming on Netflix.
‘Franklin and Bash’ (2011 – 2014)
In 2011, Franklin & Bash premiered earlier than Suits by about three weeks. But this summer, Netflix subscribers are treating this legal comedy as if it’s the new Suits. Breckin Meyer and Mark-Paul Gosselaar headline the series as Jared Franklin and Peter Bash, an inseparable pair of lawyers who defeat the big-league law firm of Infeld-Daniels in court.
Infeld-Daniels cofounder Stanton Infeld (Malcolm McDowell) is so impressed that he hires Franklin and Bash to breathe new life into the firm. It won’t be easy integrating their frat boy mentality with the corporate culture of Infeld-Daniels, especially since Infeld’s nephew, Damien Karp (Reed Diamond), is plotting to get the pair booted from the company after he lost to them in court.
Franklin & Bash is streaming on Netflix.
‘Katrina: Come Hell and High Water’ (2025)
This year marks the 20th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, the tropical cyclone that devastated the city of New Orleans in August 2005. Katrina: Come Hell and High Water is a new three-part documentary series by Spike Lee, Geeta Gandbhir and Samantha Knowles that looks back at the destruction left behind in Katrina’s wake that’s still an open wound two decades later.
This documentary lays bare how badly the city’s poorest residents had it in the storm’s immediate aftermath. People were either left to fend for themselves under unimaginable circumstances or forced to endure living conditions that were inhumane to the point of cruelty. There hasn’t yet been a full reckoning for what happened 20 years ago, but the stories live on here.
