Patrick Mahomes Reveals Story Behind Taylor Swift-Inspired Cocktail

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes might only have a cocktail once every few lifetimes, but that won’t stop him from talking up the drink named for Taylor Swift’s song “The Alchemy” at his and Travis Kelce’s new restaurant.

“I’m not a big liquor drinker myself,” Mahomes, 29, said in a recent appearance on “The Drive” on 610 Sports Radio, “but from everybody I’ve heard from, it’s a really good drink and obviously wanted to have an ode to Taylor and how important she is, not only to us but this city as well.”

The drink, which is a clarified citrus vodka blend with dry curaçao, aronia berry, cranberry, strawberry, lime and oolong tea, will be available at1587 Prime, the steakhouse that Mahomes and Swift’s fiancé, Kelce, 35, are opening on September 17.

The Alchemy is one of four drinks in the menu’s cocktail section, which also includes drinks named for Mahomes (Showtime), Kelce (Big Yeti) and Patrick’s wife, Brittany Mahomes (Queen B).

And it doesn’t appear as if the two Super Bowl champions chose a Swift song at random. “The Alchemy,” which appears on her 2024 album, The Tortured Poets Department, is loaded with apparent references to football or sports in general.

“So when I touch down / Call the amateurs and / Cut ’em from the team / Ditch the clowns, get the crown / Baby, I’m the one to beat,” the chorus goes.

In one verse, Swift, 35, sings, “Shirts off, and your friends lift you up over their heads / Beer sticking to the floor / Cheers chanted, cause they said / There was no chance, trying to be / The greatest in the league / Where’s the trophy? / He just comes running over to me.”

“With 1587 Prime, we didn’t just set out to create another steakhouse,” Tosh Berman, of hospitality group Noble 33, said in a statement about the restaurant. “We worked with Patrick and Travis to capture the essence of Kansas City — its pride, its hospitality, and its passion for great food — while staying true to Noble 33’s brand vision and design aesthetic.”

Swift and Kelce sampled the menu at 1587 Prime’s soft opening on Monday, September 8, in Kansas City. TMZ reports the couple was seen “trading quick kisses” and “flashing smiles across the room,” while mingling with other attendees, including Patrick and Brittany.

It’s unknown if the pair sampled each of their signature drinks, but Mahomes seemed convinced Swift’s would be a hit.

“It’s something that I’m sure will be ordered a ton and will be a bestseller at the 1587,” he said.

And honestly, who are we to fight the alchemy?
