Rosie O’Donnell reacted to the news of Charlie Kirk‘s tragic death.
“No just no — do not become the murderer,” O’Donnell, 63, wrote via Instagram on Wednesday, September 10, alongside a photo of Kirk. “This is wrong on every level.”
O’Donnell also included a hashtag that read, “We r all Americans.”
News broke on Wednesday that Kirk was in critical condition after being shot while making an appearance at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. Kirk was on the campus as part of his American Comeback Tour.
Multiple outlets reported that a single shot was fired about 200 yards away and seemingly struck Kirk in the neck. The Turning Point confounder was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He was 31.
“It’s with a heavy heart that we, the Turning Point USA leadership team, write to notify you that early this afternoon, Charlie went to his eternal reward with Jesus Christ in Heaven,” read a Wednesday statement from the conservative organization.
Kirk is survived by his wife, Erika Frantzve, and their two young children.
The suspect has not been caught. A person of interest was released after being taken into custody.
Kirk was also mourned by President Donald Trump. (Kirk had previously endorsed Trump for president in 2016, 2020 and 2024.)
“The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead,” Trump, 79, wrote in a statement. “No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!”
O’Donnell and Trump have had a longstanding feud, which has gone on for nearly two decades. The pair have been at odds with each other since O’Donnell was a commentator on The View.
Their drama escalated when Trump ran for office and the twosome publicly exchanged insults. During a 2015 debate, Trump was asked if he regretted referring to women as “fat pigs,” “disgusting animals” and “dogs” in the past, to which he responded, “Only Rosie O’Donnell.”
O’Donnell subsequently fired back on social media, tweeting, “Try explaining that 2 ur kids.”
After Trump took office earlier this year, O’Donnell announced that she had moved to Ireland with her 12-year-old child, Clay. In July, Trump threatened to revoke O’Donnell’s U.S. citizenship as payback for her continuous criticism. (A president does not have the power to strip a U.S. citizen of their legal status.)
