Selena Gomez briefly addressed Hailey Bieber’s comments about their rival beauty brands.
“Just leave the girl alone. She can say whatever she wants,” Gomez, 33, wrote in a since-deleted post via her Instagram Stories, per a screenshot obtained by both Just Jared and TMZ. “Doesn’t affect my life whatsoever. It’s just about relevance not intelligence. Be kind.”
She concluded, “All brands inspire me [and] there is room for everyone, and hopefully we can all stop.”
According to the outlet, Gomez subsequently deleted her upload before posting snaps of her upcoming music video glam and a cozy date with husband Benny Blanco. (Us Weekly has reached out to a rep for Gomez for comment.)
While Gomez has not further addressed her social media comments, Bieber, 28, was recently asked about the comparison between her Rhode Skincare line and Gomez’s Rare Beauty range.
“It’s always annoying being pitted against other people. I didn’t ask for that,” Bieber told The Wall Street Journal in a profile published earlier this month. “When people want to see you a certain way and they’ve made up a story about you in their minds, it’s not up to you to change that.”
Gomez and Hailey have long been presumed to be at odds considering their respective relationships with Justin Bieber. Gomez dated Justin, 31, on and off from 2009 to 2018. After Justin and Gomez broke up, he started dating Hailey.
“What if Hailey ends up being the girl I’m gonna marry, right? If I rush into anything, if I damage her, then it’s always gonna be damaged,” Justin previously told GQ in March 2016. “It’s really hard to fix wounds like that. It’s so hard. … I just don’t want to hurt her.”
After Justin and Hailey got married in September 2018, they often received backlash from fans who thought there was relationship overlap. Justin, Hailey and Gomez have all denied the rumors on multiple occasions.
“It’s hard for me to talk about this because I don’t want to talk on either one of their behalf because it was their relationship,” Hailey said on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast in 2022. “I honestly respect that very deeply, but I just know what was going on when we got back together. And I know what had to happen for that to come back together in a healthy way, and I think it was the most healthy, mature decision that he could have made and I respect that.”
The next year, Gomez confirmed that she and Hailey had spoken about the apparent drama.
“Hailey Bieber reached out to me and let me know that she has been receiving death threats and such hateful negativity,” Gomez wrote via her Instagram Stories in March 2023. “This isn’t what I stand for. No one should have to experience hate or bullying. I’ve always advocated for kindness and really want this all to stop.”
Hailey issued her own statement several hours later.
“The last few weeks have been very hard for everyone involved and millions of people are seeing so much hate around this which is extremely harmful,” Hailey wrote at the time. “While social media is an incredible way to connect and build community, moments like this only create extreme division instead of bringing people together.”
