Harrison Ford received the ultimate birthday gift days after turning 83: his first Emmys nomination!
The actor, who celebrated his birthday on Sunday, July 13, earned a 2025 Emmys nod two days later for his performance on Shrinking season 2. Ford is up for the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series category after playing senior therapist Dr. Paul Rhodes — a role he has enjoyed since 2023.
The rest of the category includes Shrinking costar Michael Urie, Ike Barinholtz for The Studio, Paul W. Downs for Hacks, Jeff Hiller for Somebody Somewhere, Ebon Moss-Bachrach for The Bear and Bowen Yang for Saturday Night Live.
Shrinking is also nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series for the first time. Jason Segel, who plays grieving therapist and single dad Jimmy Laird, earned his second nod for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for the AppleTV+ show.
Ford is a bonafide Hollywood icon, arguably known best for playing Han Solo in the Star Wars franchise and famously cracking a whip like nobody else as Indiana Jones in the film franchise by the same name. Still, and despite his undeniable mark on the industry, he doesn’t have as much hardware celebrating his onscreen accomplishments as you might expect.
The actor, who has been in the film industry since the 1960s, has only been nominated for an Oscar once in his career. He earned an Academy Award nod in 1986 for Best Actor in a Leading Role for Witness. Ford was nominated for his only BAFTA Award for the same film that year.
If Ford takes home the Emmy for Shrinking during the upcoming September 14 award show, it would be his first big win in his decades-long career.
He was previously nominated for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role on Television at the 2025 Golden Globes for Shrinking, but Shōgun’s Tadanobu Asano took home the trophy.
Ford’s work on Shrinking was also recognized at the 2025 Screen Actors Guild Awards where he was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series, as well as the Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble category with his castmates.
Additionally, the Hollywood legend has been honored at several awards ceremonies over the years.
He was the 2002 Cecil B. DeMille Award winner at the Golden Globes, won an honorary Cesar Award in 2010, was awarded the Honorary Golden Palm at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival and received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2024 Critics Choice Awards.
Trophies or not, Ford’s Shrinking costars feel like they’ve won the lottery by getting to work with him so closely.

“It’s like a dream come true,” Segel, 45, exclusively told Us Weekly in August 2024 of his partnership with Ford.
He gushed, “The thing about working with somebody like Harrison Ford is that if you have any part in your brain that is conditioned to feel like something is wrong or things haven’t worked out the way you want it and [then] you find yourself acting across from Harrison Ford, that voice loses. You instantly know that ‘Oh, my gosh, it all worked out OK, didn’t it?’”
Seasons 1 and 2 of Shrinking are now streaming on AppleTV+.
