Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens are a match made in world-class athlete heaven.
The Olympic gold medalist and the NFL player, who was then a Houston Texans safety, met via the dating app Raya in March 2020. “I didn’t know who she was,” Owens told Texas Monthly in June 2021. “I just hadn’t heard of her, and when I told her that, that’s one of the things she liked.”
Though the COVID-19 pandemic delayed the 2020 Olympics, the break in Biles’ training schedule allowed the pair to get closer. “It was one of the few times in her life where everything was just shut off and she couldn’t do anything,” Owens explained. “So we used it to get to know each other — really get to know each other. It created our bond and made it stronger. Now I’m so thankful.”
The gymnast is seemingly as fearless when it comes to dating as she is on the mat. “He would say I slid into his DMs,” she told the Wall Street Journal in July 2021. They hung out a couple weeks later and the rest was history. They tied the knot in April 2023.

"Got the hottest chick in the game wearin' my chain," Owens wrote via Instagram to celebrate Biles' birthday. "Wishing the happiest 24th birthday to my lady, I’m so excited for what the future holds for us and I can’t wait to celebrate many more with you. I love you baby."
After the Missouri native watched Biles compete for the first time, he shared his thoughts about seeing her in action. "What an amazing experience," he wrote via Instagram. "First time getting to watch you compete in person and you didn’t disappoint. It’s so cool that I get to watch you do what you love, and be the best at that ‼️ I’m so proud of you my lil champ."
The gymnast wished Owens a happy 26th birthday from Japan. "I love you so much," she wrote via Instagram. "Can’t wait to celebrate you when I get home! thanks for keeping me sane during the craziest times. an ear to vent too, someone to share fun times with and make the best of memories 🖤 not sure how I got so lucky & what I’d do without you! But I hope you have the best day ever. Not too much fun without me tho hahaha."
Biles took a much-needed vacation after the Olympics in August, but that didn't stop her from supporting her man on the field. "Sending you love & well wishes from vacation!" the athlete shared via her Instagram Story along with a screenshot of her FaceTiming her love. "I'll be cheering you on! GO #36!"
She added, "I love you so much & so so so proud of you."
Biles later shared a photo of Owens taken during one of his football games on her Instagram Story and captioned it, "Yesssssss that's my boyfriend that's my boyfriend."
The Olympic gymnast shared a sweet snap of the couple wearing matching outfits via Instagram. "Oops I forgot to tell y’all that we’ve been dating for more than a year 🤍,” Biles wrote in honor of the pair's anniversary. “So happy past 1 year to the best thing that’s ever happened to you: ME 🤍🤣.”
Her beau commented on the pic, writing, “Time flies when [you’re] having fun ❤️🤪 To many more with you baby 🤞🏽.”
Biles celebrated her beau's first NFL start with a supportive Instagram message. "#36 showed all the way out today starting!" she wrote alongside a sweet photo of the duo holding hands. "Don’t mess with him 😤🖤🤞🏾🏈 I’m so proud of you babe!!! I love watching you live your dream!"
Owens replied in the comments: "Thank you so much baby ❤️🤞🏽 I know you always gone support!! My ride or die."
After celebrating Valentine's Day together, the couple announced via Instagram that they got engaged. "THE EASIEST YES," the Ohio native gushed. "I can't wait to spend forever & ever with you, you're everything I dreamed of and more! let's get married FIANCÉ 💍🥺🥲🤎 @jowens_3."
After Biles expressed her gratitude and “shock” over being awarded a coveted Presidential Medal of Freedom honor by President Biden, Owens praised her accomplishment.
“Words can’t explain how proud I am of you, this has been such a surreal experience to watch you receive your Presidential Medal of Freedom, and be the youngest to ever receive one at that,” he captioned an Instagram carousel of pics from the July 7 festivities. “You’re one of the strongest people I know and are so deserving, I’m so blessed to be able to experience this with you. You motivate me more everyday to be the best version of myself. Such a [sic] inspiration, I love you so much babe ❤️.”
As Owens started the NFL preseason with the Green Bay Packers, Biles returned to gymnastics competitions for the first time in two years. "Long distance isn’t easy, but seeing you play your heart out is so worth it 💛 I’m so proud of you baby," Biles captioned a snap of them kissing on the sidelines after a preseason game.
Owens, meanwhile, shared his support even while on the field. "I sprinted in here right out of Family Night to go check my phone and check out the scores," Owens told reporters during an NFL press conference after Biles earned a gold medal at the the Core Hydration U.S. Classic. "I'm in here screaming and guys are like, 'What's going on?' I'm like, 'Man, my lady, she just won. She killed it.' I was super excited."
Owens made headlines after he called himself “the catch” in his and Biles’ relationship during an interview on “The Pivot” podcast. He also claimed that he was not aware of Biles or her Olympic accomplishments before meeting in 2020.
Owens responded to online backlash for his controversial comments by praising Biles via his Instagram Story after she was named the Associated Press’ Female Athlete of the Year. “You never cease to amaze me ❤️❤️. You deserve it baby!!!!! So proud of you 👏.”
He also poked fun at haters by captioning a wedding photo via Instagram, “Unbothered 😂❤️ Just know we locked in over here 🤞🏽.” Biles, for her part, commented, “🤞🏾💋 for life.”
Biles, for her part, seemingly addressed the drama with a hilarious tweet. “Are y’all done yet?” she wrote alongside a meme of a child scratching their head via X (formerly Twitter.)
Owens was photographed attending the women’s gymnastics finals during the 2024 Paris Olympics on July 30. The NFL star — who was wearing his wife’s face on his shirt — was tracking her scores on a piece of paper.
“It’s the person you love most, man, and you see them out there in a position where someone could get hurt and you care,” he explained during Chicago Bears practice ahead of the Olympics games. “I’m just holding my breath, and I have my little piece of paper right there ready calculating everything so I can’t wait. It’s always super nerve-wracking.”
Owens joined Biles at the 2025 ESPY Awards, where they shared a sweet kiss on the red carpet.
