Olympian Simone Biles had an appropriate response when an influencer asked whether the most decorated gymnast of all time wished she was more athletic.
“Do you sometimes wish you were, like, a little bit more athletic?” Sophie Tangel asked Biles, 28, in a Friday, September 5, TikTok video.
As Tangel flipped the camera to Biles, the pro athlete didn’t know whether the question was real.
“Is this a serious question?” Biles asked, making a puzzled face and bursting into laughter. “Do you know who you’re talking to?”
Biles, for the uninitiated, holds 11 Olympic and 30 World medals after making her Olympic debut in 2016. Her athletic prowess, however, has caused debates with husband Jonathan Owens, a professional football player. (Owens, who has played for several NFL teams, currently is a safety for the Chicago Bears.)
“I think we’re good at our own sports,” Biles said on 2023’s Back That Year Up about the couple’s frequent debates about athleticism. “We’ve tried to pin each other against [one another] on, like, difficulty, ability and all that stuff. So, at the end of the day, gymnastics is harder — if he agrees or not.”
She continued, “We fought over it a couple of times, and then we vowed once we got married, we wouldn’t talk about it again. But it keeps coming up every time, but he has done my workout in the gym and he can barely do it, and then I went to their NFL workout and I crushed it.”
Biles and Owens, 30, have been together since 2020 and got married three years later. Now, they are one another’s biggest supporters and, just as Biles cheers Owens on during many of his Bears games, he does the same for her gymnastics meets.
“It is not much motivation you need to do, just because you don’t want to put extra added pressure on anyone,” Owens exclusively told Us Weekly in July 2024. “I just tell her, ‘Go do your thing, baby.’… As long as she’s there, she’s on the field, give her a kiss and we can go about our way.”
He continued, “You get a different type of focus whenever you just have this one person that you’re focusing on. And I ain’t saying there’s something wrong with being single, but for me, knowing myself, I’ve played a lot better since [meeting Simone], I’ve just been focused and locked in, and you come home, talk about my day and play with the dogs, you know what I mean? That’s just kind of, like, our thing.”
