Prime Minister of Mauritius, Navinchandra Ramgoolam, arrived in Ayodhya on Friday and visited the Ram Janmabhoomi Temple. He was accompanied by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
Earlier upon arrival, PM Ramgoolam received a traditional and warm welcome in Ayodhya. The city was decked with posters welcoming the Mauritian prime minister.
Visit to Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi
Earlier in the day, PM Ramgoolam, who is currently on a state visit to India, visited the historic Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi.
On the visit of the Mauritius PM, Ayodhya's Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gaurav Grover said that comprehensive security and administrative preparations had been made to ensure the success of the high-profile visit.
"Extensive preparations have been made in Ayodhya district. Both the district administration and police officers have conducted thorough site inspections and completed all necessary arrangements. External officials and security forces required for the visit have been secured," he said. "The entire itinerary, from the VIP's arrival at the airport to their departure, has been meticulously planned minute-by-minute."
Meanwhile, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) described the Mauritius Prime Minister’s temple visit as a powerful testament to the deep cultural and civilisational ties between India and Mauritius. "PM Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam of Mauritius offered prayers at the sacred Kashi Vishwanath Dham in Varanasi. A visit reflecting the deep cultural and civilisational bonds that unite India and Mauritius," the MEA stated in the post on X.
Bilateral talks with PM Modi
On Thursday, PM Modi, along with PM Ramgoolam, reviewed all aspects of bilateral cooperation between the two nations and discussed regional as well as global issues. During their meeting, both leaders affirmed their intention to deepen cooperation in infrastructure, healthcare, digital technology, energy, maritime security, and other areas.
The meeting between the two leaders in the historic city of Varanasi underscored the enduring civilisational connection, spiritual bonds, and deep-rooted people-to-people ties that have shaped the special and unique relationship between India and Mauritius.
The Mauritius PM is on his first overseas bilateral visit to India in his current term, from September 9 to September 16. He is visiting India at the invitation of Prime Minister Modi.
Signing of MoUs and economic package
The Mauritian Prime Minister’s arrival in Varanasi on Wednesday was followed by a bilateral meeting, the signing of MoUs, and a joint press statement with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday.
Both nations also deepened their strategic and developmental partnership with the signing of multiple agreements and the announcement of a comprehensive Special Economic Package exceeding $680 million.
In total, seven Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) across diverse sectors, including science and technology, oceanography, public administration, power, small development projects, hydrography, and space cooperation, were signed.
Key agreements included a space collaboration deal for the establishment of telemetry, tracking, and communication stations, and a renewed commitment to maritime research and hydrographic mapping.
