Ajike “AJ” Owens was a mother of four when she was shot and killed by her neighbor.
Owens’ tragic murder is the subject of the documentary The Perfect Neighbor, which premiered on Netflix in October 2025. The film is shown through police bodycam footage as it chronicles the events leading up to Owens’ death as she was murdered by her neighbor, Susan Lorincz.
Owens had four children: sons Isaac, Israel and Titus and daughter Afrika. Before the fatal shooting took place, Lorincz reportedly had multiple incidents with Owens’ children and called law enforcement on them. The Perfect Neighbor includes footage from police visits to Lorincz’s neighborhood after every call she made.
After one instance between Lorincz and Owens’ children, she went to speak with her neighbor. Lorincz shot Owens and subsequently killed her. Lorincz was convicted of manslaughter in 2024 and sentenced to 25 years in prison.

Where Are Isaac, Israel, Afrika and Titus Now?
Owens’ mother, Pamela Dias, took in Isaac, Israel, Afrika and Titus following the tragedy. Dias previously shared that Owens’ eldest sons felt responsible for their mom’s death.
“In his soul, in his heart, it’s his fault,” Dias said of Israel, who told his mother about the incident with Lorincz prior to the shooting, in a 2023 interview with MSNBC. “Our 12-year-old blames himself for the death of his mother because he couldn’t save her. He couldn’t give her CPR. His words were, ‘Grandma, grandma, I couldn’t save her.’”
On the first anniversary of Owens’ death, all four kids gathered with family and friends to celebrate Owens’ life. A poem was read in Owens’ honor, per Fox News.
Following the shooting, Dias shared with CNN in 2025 that Isaac was in trauma therapy and she was looking into therapy for Israel as well.
“It’s been very hard for the children – they were very young when they lost their mother, and it’s something no child should have to endure,” Dias told the outlet. “At the same time, they’ve shown strength and resilience that continues to amaze me.”
