Blue Bloods' Danny Meets His New Partner in 'Boston Blue' Trailer After Baez

Danny Reagan is going to have a new partner in Boston Blue after Blue Bloods fans got attached to his relationship with Maria Baez.

CBS released the first trailer for Boston Blue on Thursday, September 4, in which Danny (Donnie Wahlberg) moves from New York to Boston. After chasing a suspect, he is ordered to stop his pursuit by Boston detective Lena Silver (Sonequa Martin-Green).

The duo briefly face off before ultimately becoming work partners. Danny and Lena even seem to develop a friendship — with him joining her family for Shabbat dinner. But Blue Bloods fans know that before solving cases in Beantown, Danny formed a strong connection with Baez (Marisa Ramirez).

Based on an official synopsis from CBS, Danny will be looking for a change in the Boston Blue spinoff after his son Sean — now played by Mika Amonsen — becomes a Boston PD patrolman.

“Sean committed himself to pursuing his family’s legacy but wanted to do so on his own terms, which meant joining a department outside of his hometown,” read the character description. “Danny’s decision to stay in Boston gives this father and son duo a chance to reconnect on a deeper level.”

Wahlberg, 56, originated the role of Danny on CBS’ hit series Blue Bloods, which ran from 2010 to 2024. When the audience last saw Danny, he was taking some much-needed advice from his grandfather Henry (Len Cariou) about his personal life.

“I always told you not to bring the job home,” Henry reminded Danny in the 2024 finale, noting that the “problem now is you have no one not to bring it home to.” He then told Danny to promise he’d “find that someone” after this case.

Danny took the advice to heart, seemingly asking his work partner, Baez, out on a date. “You wanna get a pizza?” he said.

Before Boston Blue officially went into production, Wahlberg told Fox News Digital in June that saying yes to Boston Blue was a “challenge,” adding, “I kept saying to myself, you know, if I’m really sincere about wanting Blue Bloods to carry on, here’s an opportunity to do it.”

Wahlberg was also asked about how Blue Bloods and Boston Blue would crossover.

“The viewers are saying, ‘How do we keep going with a Blue Bloods spinoff without the whole family?’” he noted. “And I share that. How do we do that, right?”

According to the actor, there have been conversations about introducing Boston Blue while still respecting its Blue Bloods origins. Wahlberg went on to say that any other member of the Reagan family is just a “phone call away.”

“Now, it’s just Danny going to this new world, but I can’t say a lot about it — but I could say, if he’s a Reagan, it will never be just Danny,” he shared at the time. “There’ll always be a Reagan a phone call away.”

Wahlberg continued: “And the traditions that the Reagans have, Danny wouldn’t abandon those traditions.”

Blue Bloods is currently streaming on Paramount+. Boston Blue premieres on CBS October 17 at 10 p.m. ET.
