Celebs Who Became Grandparents Young: Emily Maynard, Eminem and More

Although one typically assumes they’ll become a grandparent later in life, some lucky few get the rare chance to be young grandmas and grandpas — celebrities included. Stars like Whoopi Goldberg, Jim Carrey and Mick Jagger all became grandparents before the age of 55. In August 2025, former Bachelorette Emily Maynard learned she would earn the title of grandma at the age of 39 thanks to her oldest daughter, Ricki, then 20. Goldberg’s daughter, Alexandrea Martin Dean, was just 16 when she got pregnant. “It would not have been what I would have chosen for her, but at the same time, I thought, ‘What a great thing that she’s confident enough in me to tell me,’” Goldberg told the Los Angeles Times in 1989. Goldberg’s granddaughter Amara Skye Dean was born on November 13, 1989 — which also happened to be her grandma’s birthday. (Alexandrea also shares two children with her now-ex-husband, Bernard Dean.) Maynard’s daughter Ricki announced her pregnancy in August 2025 at age 20. The mom-to-be shared a sonogram photo via her Instagram Story at the time, quoting Love Island USA’s Huda Mustafa by writing, “Netflix told me I’m not allowed to talk about it.”

Bachelor Nation was first introduced to Ricki when Maynard competed for Brad Womack’s heart on The Bachelor in 2011. At the time, Maynard revealed she was previously engaged to Ricky Hendrick when he died in an airplane accident in 2004 at 24 years old. After his death, Maynard discovered she was pregnant with Ricki, whom she welcomed at age 19. 

Maynard married Tyler Johnson in 2014 and has since welcomed five additional children — Jennings, (born 2015), Gibson, (born 2016), Gatlin, (born 2017), Nola, (born 2020), and Jones, (born 2022).  

The View panelist also became a great-grandmother young when Amara gave birth to her first child, Charli Rose Burr-Reynaud.

“I was a grandmother kind of young, you know? And now I’m a great-grandmother,” Goldberg told Jimmy Fallon in 2014. “I had just gotten into the groove of being a grandmother, it was all great. And then this girl came and said she and her man were having a baby and I wanted to ring her neck. But then my daughter’s like, ‘Uh, I’m going to be a grandmother. Oh, my God, I just saw my life was beginning, I raised the children, and now ...’ So, I let her go through all of that and I whispered in her ear, ‘I got no sympathy for you. You made me a grandmother when I was 33, bitch.’” 

Goldberg added that her grandkids and granddaughter simply call her “Whoopi.” 

The rapper became a grandfather at age 52 when his daughter, Hailie Jade McClintock, welcomed son Elliot with her husband, Evan McClintock, in March 2025. 

To celebrate Elliot’s 4-month birthday, Hailie shared a cute picture of the baby via Instagram wearing a replica onesie of grandpa Eminem's superhero costume from his 2009 music video for "Without Me."

Carrey was 47 when his and ex-wife Melissa Womer’s daughter, Jane Erin Carrey, gave birth to a baby boy with metal singer Alex Santana in 2010.

In a tweet announcing his grandson’s birth, Carrey wrote alongside a baby photo, "Jackson Riley Santana, My Grandson, Born today! This is what 7lbs.11oz. of Calfornia dynomite [sic] looks like!”

Jane is also the mother of two other children, Logan James Bordelon and Erin Rey Bordelon, with husband Chase Bordelon. 

Brosnan became a grandfather at 46 when his adopted daughter, Charlotte, welcomed her first child, Isabella, in 1998 with partner Alex Smith. (Brosnan shared Charlotte and son Chris with late wife Cassandra Harris, who died of ovarian cancer in 1991. Charlotte also died from the same illness in 2013 at 41 years old.)

"[Life] can be snatched away without any prior warning, so why waste it?" Brosnan told The Herald in 2015. "That's why I enjoy my wonderful, beautiful family, my children and my grandchildren."

The actor has four grandchildren: Isabella and Lucas from his late daughter, and Marley May and Jaxxon from his and Cassandra’s son Sean. He married Keely Shaye Smith in 2001, and they share sons Dylan and Paris.

Sheen was 47 when his granddaughter, Luna, was born in 2013. Luna is his oldest daughter Cassandra Estevez’s child with husband Casey Huffman. (Sheen also has two daughters with ex-wife Denise Richards — Sami and Lola — and twin sons Bob and Max with ex-wife Brooke Mueller.)

"It's impossibly a most wondrous day," Sheen told TMZ at the time of Luna’s birth. "My bucket list is a thimble!"

Snoop Dogg became a grandpa in 2015 at age 43 when his son Corde Broadus welcomed his first child, Zion, with then-girlfriend Jessica Kyzer. 

The rapper is a grandfather of eight, including Zion, Elleven, Kai (who died 10 days after birth) and Sky from Corde; and Cordoba, Chateau and Symphony from son Cordell. His daughter, Cori Broadus, also welcomed a baby girl in 2024. 

“[Zion] used to call me Papa Noop, because he couldn't say Snoop, so he started calling me Papa Noop. And then as time went by, he learned how to say Snoop, so now I'm Papa Snoop,” Snoop Dogg told Jennifer Hudson of his grandpa nickname. 

The Real Housewives of Atlanta star was 44 when her son Bryson Bryant, who was 22 at the time, welcomed daughter Bri'asia in 2012 with his then-girlfriend, Ashley Hill. 

Leakes now has four grandkids — Bri'asia and her brothers, Benny and Brayden, as well as Kynd, Leakes’ son Brentt’s firstborn. 

“Swipe: Best Christmas Gift ever….This little bundle of love and joy arrived just in time for Christmas,”  Leakes — a.k.a. “Glam’Ma” — shared of Kynd via Instagram in December 2024. 

Polanco was 40 when her daughter, Dasany Gonzalez, gave birth to son Dior in October 2023.

"I'm sure I'm not the first or the last. There's younger grandmas than me, but I'm still here, I'm still fly," Polanco told People of her new grandma title in 2024. "I'm enjoying him. He's amazing. He's a model. Dior, he's modeling and he's just a blessing."

Sutherland was just 39 when he became a grandpa as his stepdaughter, Michelle Kath, welcomed a son in 2005. (He now has two grandkids, Hamish and Quinn.)

"I raised two daughters. You can sit down with little girls and maybe even have a little nap. With my grandsons there is no way of even thinking about rest," Kiefer, who also shares daughter Sarah Sutherland with ex-wife Camelia Kath, told the Irish Independent in 2012. "After one hour with them I am totally finished and I feel like I have earned a medal."

The Rolling Stones singer was 49 when his daughter Jade, whom he shares with ex-wife Bianca Jagger, welcomed her first child, Assisi Jackson, in 1992.

The rockstar also became a great-grandfather when Assisi had her first baby, Ezra, with her boyfriend Alex Key in 2014.

Jagger has eight children including Jade: daughter Karis with actress Marsha Hunt, daughters Elizabeth and Georgia May and sons James and Gabriel with ex-wife Jerry Hall, son Lucas with model Luciana Morad Gimenez and son Deveraux, whom he shares with girlfriend Melanie Hamrick.

Mama June was only 32 when her daughter Anna Cardwell gave birth to her first child, Kaitlyn, in 2012. (The identity of Kaitlyn’s father has not been disclosed by Anna, who welcomed another daughter, Kylee, in 2015 with ex-husband Michael Cardwell.)

After Anna died in December 2023 from stage 4 adrenal carcinoma, June fought Michael in court for custody of Kaitlyn. A judge ruled in September 2024 that Shannon would retain legal and physical custody over a then-12-year-old Kaitlyn, while Kylee remained with her father.

Osmond was 48 when his son Jeremy welcomed baby Dylan with wife Melisa in 2005. Osmond now has a whopping 14 grandchildren from his five children with his wife of 46 years, Debbie.

In 2014, Cage became a grandad at 50 when his oldest son, Weston Cage Coppola, welcomed son Lucien with his then-wife, Danielle Cage. (Nicolas is also the father of son Kal-El from a previous relationship and son August Francesca Coppola Cage with his wife, Riko Shibata.)

Cage also has three more grandchildren through Weston: Sorin, whom the musician shares with Danielle, and twins Venice Zohar and Cyress Zara with his ex-wife Hila Cage Coppola.

The former NFL star was just 40 when daughter Brittany gave birth to her son Parker Brett with a former partner at age 21 in 2010. Brittany later had two more sons, Alexander "AJ" James and Oscar, with husband Alex.

Brett also shares daughter Breleigh with wife Deanna Favre.
