Taylor Swift refuted Justin Baldoni’s claim that she “agreed” to be deposed in his federal lawsuit against Blake Lively, Us Weekly can report.
“As counsel for the parties know, since the inception of this matter we have consistently maintained that my client has no material role in this action,” read a letter filed by Swift’s legal team on Friday, September 12, and obtained by Us Weekly.
“Further, my client did not agree to a deposition, but if she is forced into a deposition, we advised (after first hearing about the deposition just three days ago) that her schedule would accommodate the time required during the week of October 20 if the parties were able to work out their disputes,” the filing, which was addressed to the judge presiding over the case, continued. “We take no role in those disputes.”
As Us previously reported, Baldoni’s team submitted a letter on Thursday, September 11, claiming the pop star “agreed” to be deposed next month.
Baldoni’s team stated that the deposition would take place between October 20 to October 25. His team asked for an extension on the deadline to depose third parties to allow them time to talk to Swift, 35. Lively, 38, slammed the request and asked the court not to give Baldoni, 41, any additional time.
The judge has yet to rule on the matter, but it appears that if Swift does give a deposition, it would not necessarily be something she “agreed to” but rather was “forced to.”
As Us first reported, Lively claimed Baldoni’s recent moves to depose Swift were disrespectful.
Lively’s team said Baldoni and his team had “repeatedly sought to bring [Swift] into this litigation to fuel their relentless media strategy.”
“In this respect, [Baldoni and his team’s] lack of diligence, and disrespect for [Swift’s] privacy and schedule, is astounding,” Lively’s team wrote in response to Baldoni’s request for an extension.
The Gossip Girl alum’s lawyer added, ”Discovery has been ongoing for more than six months, and [Swift] is someone whose calendar should be presumed to be packed with professional obligations for months in advance.”
Swift spoke out about being named in the legal battle back in March after Baldoni dropped a previously issued subpoena.
The rep said Swift has no involvement in the film or knowledge relevant to the lawsuit.
“Taylor Swift never set foot on the set of this movie, she was not involved in any casting or creative decisions, she did not score the film, she never saw an edit or made any notes on the film, she did not even see It Ends With Us until weeks after its public release, and was traveling around the globe during 2023 and 2024 headlining the biggest tour in history,” the spokesperson added.
As Us previously reported, Lively sued Baldoni over alleged sexual harassment on the set of their 2024 film. Baldoni denied the claims.
Lively also alleged Baldoni hired a crisis PR team to smear her in the press. He claimed she was the one who smeared him with untrue allegations.
