Dylan Efron Says Brother Zac Efron Is 'Supportive' of His Casting on 'DWTS'

Dylan Efron is getting support from his entire family — including brother Zac Efron — as he steps into the ballroom for Dancing With the Stars season 34.

“My dad is super excited,” Dylan, 33, exclusively told Us Weekly on Wednesday, September 3. “He has little kids, four and five. They’re all super excited. My mom was honestly just shocked. She’s just like, ‘Where’d this come from?’ My brother is supportive.”

Dylan explained that Zac, 37, went to a live Dancing With the Stars taping “a long time ago” and gushed over his experience.

“He’s like, ‘The best part is going to be those live shows.’ He was saying, like, it’s such a good feeling,” Dylan recalled, before teasing whether the whole family would be cheering him on: “We’ll see.”

When asked whether there may be a nod to High School Musical in his dances, Dylan shut down the idea. “No,” he said, while pro dancer and partner Daniella Karagach noted, “We’re standing our own. We’re going to do our own thing.”

As Dylan and Daniella, 32, gear up to compete for the mirrorball trophy, he quipped that Dancing With the Stars has already been a harder experience than his stint on The Traitors season 3 — which he won alongside former Bachelorette Gabby Windey, The Real Housewives of New Jersey’s Dolores Catania and Ivar Mountbatten.

“This is way worse, because this is the round table but I’m dancing,” Dylan quipped. “All I had to do is raise my hand at that one. This one’s like, get up on the table and dance.”

Dylan explained that he’s “never” performed in any capacity before, but he’s up for the challenge.

“I immediately was like, ‘No way am I gonna do that.’ Those are the things that you need to reflect on and be like, ‘I’m saying no because I’m scared and I’m scared because this could be the best thing I’ve ever done,’” Dylan explained. “Stepping out of your comfort zone in that way is the best thing to do.”

Daniella, who previously won season 30 of Dancing With the Stars with Iman Shumpert, is ready to teach Dylan the basics.

“I’ve never had a partner with dance experience, so that’s where the fun comes in,” Daniella exclusively told Us. “I love watching them become dancers at the end of the process. He’s just such a great guy and he has so much great energy around him with even the people who surround him. I’m just excited for people to see him.”

Dancing With the Stars premieres on ABC and Disney+ September 16 at 8 p.m. ET, with new episodes streaming the next day on Hulu.
