Emily Blunt has a busy schedule, but she’ll always make time for one nightly ritual with her kids.

Blunt, 42, shared why she refuses to sacrifice bedtime with her children during an interview with Net-a-Porter published on Monday, September 1.

“Once my children start to find me repellent, once Mommy doesn’t reign supreme, I will do it, but I feel bedtime is this essential anchor,” she explained. “The 10-minute chats where they tell you everything – you don’t want to miss them.”

Blunt shares daughters Hazel, 11, and Violet, 9, with husband John Krasinski.

Back in 2023, the Devil Wears Prada actress revealed that she prioritizes time with her daughters despite her busy career.

“Because even though they’re hardy, and they’re used to this strange life, it’s still rough on them when I have to go away,” she told Harper’s Bazaar. “There are cornerstones of the girls’ day that I don’t want to compromise on – like, ‘Will you wake me up, take me to school, pick me up and put me to bed?’ And I just want to be able to say, ‘Yes, yes, yes.’ It’s such an exhale for me to be able to do that.”

Blunt and Krasinski, 45, began dating in 2008 after they met through a mutual friend.

“It was one of those things where I wasn’t really looking for a relationship and I was thinking I’m going to take my time in L.A.,” Krasinski explained on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2011. “Then I met her and I was so nervous. I was like, ‘Oh God, I think I’m going to fall in love with her.’ As I shook her hand I went, ‘I like you.’ It’s one of those things where as soon as you meet someone you kind of know.”

Meanwhile, Blunt told InStyle in 2013, “Meeting John really changed my life. When I feel the support that I have from him, I feel invincible. There’s someone behind you on your good days and someone in front of you on your bad days.”

Blunt and Krasinski got engaged in August 2009 and tied the knot in July 2010. They welcomed Hazel in February 2014, followed by Violet in July 2016.

Over the years, the A Quiet Place costars have gotten candid about both the joys and struggles of parenting.

“I think you realize first and foremost how it’s really hard to be a great parent and you’re just trying. There’s no perfection. There’s no school,” Krasinski admitted on Today in 2016. “There’s no defined way to go about it; you’re just learning. And I think that there’s such a long period of time when you’re a kid that you see your parents as superheroes; they can do no wrong. But you realize they figured everything out by trial and error too, and there’s something very humbling about that. I really connected to my parents even more, thinking of them as young parents, as I am now.”

Blunt told E! News in 2022, “I don’t know if any parent thinks they’re ever juggling it well. I’ve just surrendered to: ‘This is our life.’”

She continued, “I guess that’s all we’ve ever known and it’s all my kids have ever known. … They’ve got that ownership of us as parents. They’re not, like, running to see me in a movie, which keeps you humble.”
