Ciara’s son Future Zahir is officially Future Zahir Wilson.
The singer has added her husband of nine years and New York Giants quarterback Russell Wilson’s name to the moniker of her 11-year-old son, whom she shares with rapper Future. Ciara, 39, became engaged to Future, 41, in 2013, and they welcomed their son the following year. The pair split in 2014 amid rumors of the rapper’s infidelity.
Ciara now has full custody of Future Zahir, and the name change occurred “a few years back,” sources told TMZ. (She and Wilson, 36, also share daughters Sienna, 8, and Amora, 21 months, as well as son Win, 5.)
Fans first realized Future Zahir’s name change when Wilson posted a family photo from the US Open via his Instagram Story earlier in the week and captioned the pic “Mrs. @ciara Wilson Future Wilson & Sienna Wilson.”
Future still has his dad’s last name, Wilburn, as part of his legal name, TMZ reports, though if a 2023 interview with Ciara is any indication, the two aren’t on the same page in terms of coparenting.
Ciara sat down with The Shade Room’s Thembi that September and, when asked what it was like coparenting with Future, laughed hysterically.
“OK, I feel like that says it all,” Thembi responded.
Now with four kids in tow, Ciara reflected on “some of the most eventful years” of her life in a conversation with Us Weekly in August, just after the release of her eighth studio album, CiCi.
“When I reflected back on the journey, I couldn’t believe I gave birth to two of my precious babies Win and Amora all while making this album,” she said. “I was also fortunate enough to go on tour during this time as well. Honestly, life couldn’t have been more hectic and somewhat chaotic. If I must say, I call it a good chaos though.”
Despite everything on her plate, Ciara said she has been careful to take time for herself.
“I’ve been embracing myself every step of the way, giving myself grace when needed, because it’s definitely been a lot going on,” she added. “But if I must say there’s nothing better than having your cup full of all the things that you want, desire and dream of. This chapter has definitely been a reflection of that.”
She added that her song “Made It,” which appears on CiCi, is a reflection of her journey and how “life has evolved” for her.
“I’ve gone through a lot of ups and downs, I’ve had to make significant changes in my life along the way,” she said. “Luckily, it’s all amounted to something so beautiful. I’m so excited that I get to finally share it with the world.”
