Ed Sheeran and Cherry Seaborn have kept their love life out of the spotlight — but the couple’s low-key relationship still makes fans swoon.
Sheeran initially met Seaborn when they were kids in Sheffield, England, but the pair didn’t start dating until 2015. The singer told Us Weekly in 2017 that he reunited with Seaborn thanks to a “mutual friend” who was working on his tour.
The twosome went on to quietly tie the knot in 2019. They welcomed daughter Lyra Antarctica in 2020 and daughter Jupiter in 2022.
“I just found that I really didn’t have a purpose outside of [music] because when I was giving myself fixed time of no work, I wasn’t doing anything I enjoyed because I love doing music,” Sheeran said on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in December 2021. “And [being a dad] has actually given me purpose and something in life that’s actually more important than my job.”

The “Perfect” crooner opened up to Us Weekly in March 2017 about how he reunited with his love years after they first met at Thomas Mills High School in Suffolk, England. “One of our best friends worked on my tour, so when we came to New York, where she was living at the time, we hung out and reconnected through our mutual friend. She’s great,” he gushed.
Sheeran also dished to Us in March 2017 about how the financial advisor inspired one of his most popular love ballads. “‘Perfect’ was the first song that I wrote for the album, It was inspired by Cherry,” he told Us at the time. “The line that goes, ‘Barefoot on the grass, listening to our favorite song’ was about when we were in Ibiza listening to Future’s 'March Madness', literally not wearing any shoes and going mental on the lawn, which was quite a nice time. I didn’t see her first reaction to the song because she lived in New York at the time. So I just emailed it to her but she did really like it.”
Sheeran announced the couple’s happy news in a heartfelt Instagram post in January 2018. “Got myself a fiancé just before new year,” he wrote alongside a picture that shows him planting a kiss on Seaborn’s cheek. “We are very happy and in love, and our cats are chuffed as well xx.”
Sheeran further fueled marriage speculation during an August 2018 interview with Access when he hinted that it had possibly already happened. When he was asked about his wedding plans with Seaborn, the songwriter simply began to blush and pointed at the silver ring on his left hand. He later added that he would “never really do anything too public anyway” after he was asked how he managed to slide under the radar with a wedding.
Sheeran and Seaborn stepped out for a celebration with pals Courteney Cox and her fiancé, Johnny McDaid, in August 2018. Sheeran and Seaborn dressed in floral ensembles for the outing, while the Friends alum and the Snow Patrol rocker went casual in dark clothing.
The “Perfect” singer and his hometown love reportedly tied the knot in a private ceremony in December 2018 right before the holidays. The duo quietly said “I do” at the pop star’s estate in Suffolk, U.K., in front of a very small crowd. A source told The Sun, “He wanted no fuss and he wanted it to be something entirely for them – just a tiny winter wedding."
After calling Seaborn his “wife” in his song “Remember the Name,” Sheeran finally confirmed that they got married. “[I actually wrote it] before me and Cherry got married and I knew that we’d be married by the point that the song came out,” he said during a July 2019 interview with Charlamagne Tha God.
Us confirmed that Seaborn is pregnant with her and Sheeran’s first child. “They are keeping details of the baby’s sex and due date just to family until after the baby is born, which will be soon,” a source told Us at the time. “Ed will make a great dad. He loves kids, and he built his big home in Suffolk, [England], with the plan to start a family.”
The musician celebrated his first birthday as a new dad in February 2021 with a Colin the Caterpillar cake and pirate-themed party — similar to one he had when he was a boy.
"30 today. Thank you for all your wonderful messages, I feel very loved. Currently dressed the same as I was on my 3rd birthday about to chow down on Colin the pirate caterpillar, poor bloke," he captioned a celebratory snap via Instagram.
The “Bad Habits” crooner gushed over his wife during an appearance on the Dutch “Man Man Man” podcast. “She works a very high-level job where she’s the top of her field. As soon as we started dating my life kind of shifted to that,” he said. “She plays in a female hockey team [and] we hang out with them all the time. It’s very much like women empowerment.” Sheeran added that her personality is “super pro-women and femininity.”
After the “Shivers” crooner won Songwriter of the Year at the BRITs, he gave his wife a sweet peck before thanking her tireless support in his speech.
“My wife Cherry who, at the drop of a hat, will come to the middle of nowhere to a really secluded studio and live in-house and is so supportive while we just make songs and songs and songs,” Sheeran said during the ceremony. “So thank you so much. You're the best.”
“I feel like therapy in America is far more accepted, whereas here [in England], no one really talks about it and I just felt ashamed even thinking about going to do it,” the “Eyes Closed” crooner said during an appearance on The Jonathan Ross Show before praising Seaborn’s assistance. “Then, I just had a really low three months and my wife talked me into going into therapy. I started doing it and I realized it’s not a button that you press where you’re like, ‘I’m automatically OK,’ but it definitely helps.”
Sheeran offered rare insight into his relationship with Seaborn in his Sum of It All docuseries, which dropped on May 3 via Disney+.
“It’s, like, alongside all the professional achievements have been personal achievements,” the “Celestial” singer said of his career highlights. “Like, I’ve got married and I’m a dad who has two daughters. … My and Cherry’s relationship is the most amazing thing in my life that no one really knows about. Everything in my life sort of got so much better when she got into it.”
Sheeran and Seaborn also recalled the singer’s intimate proposal at home.
“I had the date of the engagement engraved on the ring,” the British crooner added in the doc. “It had to happen on this day!”
Seaborn, for her part, noted that her now-spouse insisted that they leave their house after she had just made food. “He was like, ‘We’ve gotta do this.’ And I was like, ‘Ed, stop being such a [swear word],’” she said. “I spun around as I was saying it and he was on one knee with the ring out. I was like, ‘Oh!’”
Sheeran added: “And she said, ‘Are you joking?’ And I just said, ‘Please?’”
The Grammy winner had previously alluded to Seaborn's proposal response in his 2021 song "First Times." He sang: "The greatest thing that I have achieved / These four little words, down on one knee / Said, 'Darling, are you joking?' / And I just said, 'Please.'"
Sheeran called Seaborn the “biggest grounding force” in his life during an appearance on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast. He also offered more details into the early days of their romance — which began thanks to a connection from someone on his tour management team.
“I had moments with Cherry when we were younger and I guess we just kind of reconnected and picked up where we left off,” he said. “It was one of those things where I wasn't really expecting it to happen, I'd just got out of a relationship, I was on tour for God knows how long.”
He added, “I was sort of like, unless I do this, I will always regret it. So I just sort of jumped in. Best decision I’ve made.”
Sheeran announced that the music video for his song “Camera” was inspired by his marriage to Seaborn and stars Bridgerton alum Phoebe Dynevor.
“My original ‘Camera’ music video idea was using private home footage of mine and Cherry’s key moments of our relationship,” he wrote via Instagram, teasing the production. “But, as you guys know, we are an intensely private couple and some things we wanted to keep just for us.”
He added, “So, I recreated a few key moments of our relationship for the music video with the wonderful @phoebedynevor. It was so fun shooting this video, almost felt like a holiday for the whole shoot. It was all done on iPhone, and directed by the wonderful @emilnava. Hope you guys love the song, and the video. Both mean the world to me.”
