Lydia Plath grew up with eight siblings in a small house, so needless to say there was a constant battle for time in the shower. That’s shower, singular.
“Eleven people in a house that was built for two and then added onto because my grandparents built the house, and then we added on a few times, but still we only had one shower,” Plath, 21, said during her appearance on the Wednesday, July 23, episode of “The Jinger & Jeremy Podcast,” She added: “Two half baths but one shower. We had a pool. So summertime it worked out.”
Jinger Duggar, who is no stranger to big families herself, seemed to understand. Her husband, Jeremy Vuolo, also chimed in, saying, “Water’s water, I guess.”
“I can’t tell you how many times we’d ask dad, who’d be like, ‘You guys need to shower,’” Plath said. “And we’d be like, ‘Well, can’t we just take the soap into the pool?’ like it’s not going to work like that. We wanted it so bad. We asked so many times like, ‘Can I just take the shampoo bottle to the pool and shower there?’”
She continued, “I mean, if you didn’t have anywhere to go and all you had to do is just chores, then just get hop in the pool. If you need to wash your hair, you go wash your hair. But all you’re going to do the next day is get dirty.”
“You’re giving Felicity ideas,” Vuolo, 37, joked that Plath was giving his and Jinger’s 7-year-old daughter Felicity “ideas.” He and Duggar, 31, also share daughter Evangeline, 4, and son Finn, 2 months.
Lydia and her family are the subjects of TLC’s Welcome to Plathville, which premiered its seventh season on Tuesday, July 22. The show follows her mom Kim and dad Barry Plath, and her siblings Ethan, Hosanna, Micah, Moriah, Lydia, Isaac, Amber, Cassia and Mercy. (Kim and Barry separated in June 2022 after 24 years of marriage. Kim filed for divorce two years later.)
Lydia was joined on the podcast by her husband of five months, Zac Wyse. The couple tied the knot in February at the family’s farm in front of 115 guests, sharing their first kiss at the altar. Their marriage came just two months after they got engaged.
“The discipline it has taken to save our first kiss for the wedding day is an example of the commitment we have for each other going into our marriage,” Wyse told People in an interview after the wedding.
“We envisioned a time to celebrate our union with our close communities coming together,” Wyse added. “Neither of us wanted to get caught up in the details we won’t remember for the years to come. So we’ve tried to keep our focus on what our purpose for this day is, our union before God, our friends, and family.”
