Paul Simon’s daughter is not happy with Richard Gere.

Lulu Simon, 30, took to her Instagram Stories on Tuesday, July 8, to slam the actor, 75, for selling her childhood home to real-estate developers.

“JUST IN CASE ANYONE WAS WONDERING IF I STILL HATE RICHARD GERE – I DO!” Lulu, a musician like her father, posted in her Stories, per People.

She claimed, in all caps: “HE BOUGHT MY CHILDHOOD HOME. PROMISED HE WOULD TAKE CARE OF THE LAND AS CONDITION OF HIS PURCHASE. PROCEEDED TO NEVER ACTUALLY MOVE IN & JUST SOLD IT TO A DEVELOPER AS 9 SEPARATE PLOTS :).”

Lulu added a screenshot of a news article about the historic Connecticut mansion’s upcoming demolition. According to that article, “Preservationists are racing to salvage its 1930s charm before the 32-acre lot is turned into nine new homes.”

Gere bought the property from Paul, 83, and his wife Edie Brickell for $10.8 million circa 2022. In October 2024, he sold it to Hudson Valley House Parts for $10.7 million.

In a subsequent Story, Lulu superimposed a photo of Gere over assorted pet pictures, writing, “I HOPE MY DEAD PETS BURIED IN THAT BACK YARD HAUNT YOU UNTIL YOU DESCEND INTO A SLOW AND UNRELENTING MADNESS.”

Us Weekly has reached out to Gere’s rep for comment.

The demolition was first reported in May. Hudson Valley House Parts shared an Instagram post that month in which the company stated that “our team has been working to save the pieces that we can from the landfill.”

Before selling the 1938 estate, Gere had wanted to convert the property into a private farm, the New Canaan Advertiser reported in September 2023.

“I have received phone calls from four or five neighbors (who were) very concerned … if this was going to be some sort of big commercial operation, and it’s really not,” Gere’s lawyer, Richard Rucci, said during a Planning and Zoning Commission meeting at the time. “The owners … they both have grown up on farms, they’re very interested in farms and teaching their kids about farms … so this is really important to them.”

Gere recently moved to Madrid with his wife of 7 years, Alejandra Silva, and their sons Alexander, 6, and James, 5.

My wife is Spanish, and we’re going there for her family, her friends, her culture,” the Pretty Woman star explained on Today in November 2024. “The kids are bilingual, so it’s really going to be great for them.”
