Penn Badgley and his wife, Domino Kirke, are the proud parents of two identical twins boys.
“I’m interrupting my paternity leave, which I’m on by the way, which is also I’m whispering. There’s tiny little baby feet right there,” Badgley, 38, said in a video uploaded via Instagram on Wednesday, September 3. “I don’t want to wake them up.”
Badgley added that the reason why he was making the video was to announce there will be an upcoming live event for his podcast and new book Crushmore on Tuesday, October 14. He teased that there would be even more announcements coming soon.
The You star and the singer, 41, tied the knot in February 2017 after nearly three years of dating. The couple’s son James arrived in August 2020. Badgley is also a stepfather to Kirke’s son Cassius, whom she and ex Morgan O’Kane welcomed in January 2009.
In February, Kirke announced via Instagram that she and Badgley were expecting twins.
“Babies #3 and #4 coming this summer!” she captioned the post, shared along with a photo of Badgley and James kissing her baby bump in a photo booth. “Talk about a PLOT TWIST! Spontaneous twins are beyond magical. We are stunned. We are in awe. Can’t think of anyone else I’d rather be on this ride with @pennbadgley 👶♥️👶🎢 #handsoffthewheel #monoditwins.”
While Badgley and Kirke mostly keep their family out of the spotlight, he has opened up over the years about being a father and stepfather.
“I have an interesting situation where I have a biological son and a stepson … so I have two different kind of parental roles,” he explained on the “Modern Love” podcast in March 2024.
Badgley emphasized that Cassius’ dad is “very much in his life,” adding, “So his father is his father, and I’m something else.”
When it comes to their dynamic, Badgley and Cassius have bonded over films, including the 2014 movie Edge of Tomorrow starring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt.
“I just knew it was important,” he recalled. “It was like the stars had aligned so that my wife and my youngest son were asleep, and I was just like, ‘This is a good time to do this! You’re not going to play video games now. We’re going to do this!’ He loved it.”
Kirke also praised Badgley’s ability to adapt to his role as a stepfather in an October 2019 interview with Us Weekly.
“He’s a really good stepdad,” she exclusively told Us at the time. “He doesn’t have to be ‘dad’ so he can have more fun with him. It’s really nice. The stepparent thing is definitely uncharted territory for me ‘cause I didn’t grow up with one, but … he takes care of him really well.”
Despite his seemingly smooth transition into parenthood, Badgley acknowledged the difficult moments in February.
“Sometimes it can be tough and you can just be over it. And for whatever reason, there’s always going to be the times as a parent … you lose your patience,” he said during a live taping of the “Modern Love” podcast. “For me, it’s just the sheer size of them, being so small, the naivete, the helplessness. I would lose my patience with other people, no doubt, but not [James].”
