Prince William to Ban Prince Andrew From ‘All Elements of Royal Life’: Report

Prince William reportedly knows how he will handle his uncle Prince Andrew’s ongoing controversy once the Prince of Wales ascends the throne.

According to a Sunday, October 19, report from The Times of London, William, 43, intends to completely ban Andrew, 65, from “all elements of royal life” when he becomes King. According to the Times, the future ban will include private gatherings.

“When William is King, Andrew will be banned from all elements of royal life,” the outlet noted, per sources from inside Buckingham Palace. “He will be excluded from public and private royal events, including the coronation, and banned from most state occasions.”

Us Weekly has reached out to Kensington Palace for comment.

Though Andrew has been allowed to participate in “family occasions” alongside the rest of the royals — including Christmas visits at Sandringham — William reportedly believes Andrew is a “threat” and “a reputational risk to the monarchy, and is understood to be concerned about the message Andrew’s presence at royal events sends to victims of sexual abuse.”

William is also expected to ban Andrew’s ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, from the same gatherings.

Andrew announced his decision to give up his royal title on Friday, October 17, amid an ongoing investigation into the nature of his friendship with the late convicted pedophile and sex trafficker, Jeffrey Epstein.

“In discussion with The King, and my immediate and wider family, we have concluded the continued accusations about me distract from the work of His Majesty and the Royal Family,” Andrew said in a statement to Us on Friday. “I have decided, as I always have, to put my duty to my family and country first. I stand by my decision five years ago to stand back from public life.”

The statement continued, “With His Majesty’s agreement, we feel I must now go a step further. I will therefore no longer use my title or the honors which have been conferred upon me. As I have said previously, I vigorously deny the accusations against me.”

William is said to have been part of the decision-making process ahead of Andrew’s announcement.

“Prince William has been urging his father the King to do something about Andrew for years,” Christopher Andersen, royal expert and author of Brothers and Wives, exclusively told Us Weekly on Friday. “The Epstein sex abuse scandal just won’t go away — the royals are holding their breath, anxiously waiting for the other shoe to drop once all the files are released.”

According to Andersen, Prince Andrew grew accustomed to being his late mother, Queen Elizabeth’s, favorite. Since her 2022 death, however, Andersen told Us “it has dawned on Andrew that he might really be booted out of the royal fold altogether.”

“His titles, his privilege, his status all mattered to him,” Andersen explained. “But that has all been peeled away over the last few years and now he’s just hanging on by his fingertips. What matters most to Prince Andrew these days are all the perks — being able to hold on to Royal Lodge, his palatial home on the grounds of Windsor, maintaining a private staff and a cushy lifestyle.”

He added, “His reputation may be in tatters, but I think he’s reached the stage where it’s the creature comforts that matter to him most. Charles was on the verge of stripping Andrew of his Duke of York title, so Andrew took the preemptive step of doing it himself.”
