Shawn Johnson East and Andrew East’s relationship is worthy of an Olympic medal.
The athletic couple met through Andrew’s brother Guy East when the gymnast was in London working as a sports commentator for the 2012 Olympics, in which Guy was competing in the cycling events.
“[Guy] starts to go on this tangent about this little brother of his and how I have to meet him,” Johnson East recalled in a 2018 vlog, noting Guy wanted to play matchmaker because she was applying to Vanderbilt University in Nashville, where Andrew was a student.
Andrew eventually flew to Los Angeles to meet Johnson East, who was competing on Dancing With the Stars season 15, for a first date. Three years later, Andrew proposed. They wed in 2016 before welcoming three children.

The athletes welcomed their firstborn, daughter Drew, into the world via C-section in late October 2019. "Drew Hazel East 8lbs 8oz 20.5 inches long 10/29/19,” Johnson East captioned the first photo of her baby, which she shared via Instagram. “Named after the most incredible person I know... her daddy."
Two years later, the East family expanded when they welcomed son Jett into the world. The little boy also earned a family moniker. “Jett James East,” the Olympic gold medalist shared via Instagram at the time. Jett is “her great great great grandmothers name,” while James is “Andrew’s brothers name,” she added.
The pair announced during a July 12 episode of their “Couple Things” podcast that they were expecting another baby.
“I don’t know what three [children] will be like, it either goes one of two ways. People say it’s like, ‘Oh, it’s no big deal, you already have two.’ Or people are like, ‘Three kids broke me,’” Andrew said. “So, we’ll let you know how that goes for us, but I’m super open to having more kids … but I’m not the one who gets pregnant and I’m gonna respect [your decision].”
Johnson East, for her part, thought this pregnancy would be her last since Andrew gives her “very large babies” that take a physical “toll” on her body.
Johnson East had a C-section on December 12, giving birth to their third baby.
“Seeing [Drew and Jett] meet their newest sibling was the sweetest thing EVER,” Johnson East gushed in her “FamilyMade” newsletter. “They've been so gentle with the baby and I know they're glad the wait is over, especially Drew.”
The retired gymnast brought her family along to the 2024 Paris Olympics where she said they made “core memories.”
The couple went on a hot air balloon ride in Mexico City.
In honor of Johnson East’s birthday, her spouse put her on a billboard — including one photo that showed her snorkeling in a bikini. “Shawn Johnson Is Cool.com,” the sign read.
“I don’t [like it] — at all,” Johnson East told Andrew in an Instagram Story video. “It’s not anger, but it’s [disappointment].”
She added, “He thought it was cute and it had to do with my birthday, evidently. It was my birthday present, and I think he missed the mark. Just buy jewelry! I am embarrassed and sorry to say that he made a billboard — and he decided to choose a bikini picture.”
Andrew teased that the billboard would only be up “four more weeks,” which didn’t ease his wife’s concerns.
“My daughter’s 5, and then we have a 3-year-old and 1-year-old boy. It’s a lot. It’s perfect. I feel complete,” Johnson East exclusively told Us about her life as a mom. “I feel like our family is complete. It’s the most amazing dynamic.”
She quipped, “I always tell my husband, if we have a fourth, it’ll be an oopsie down the road. But it’s not happening intentionally anytime soon.”
While Johnson East said she does “love babies” and would be happy for her kids to have “more siblings,” she also noted her “capacity [has been] reached as a mom.”
“Such a fun quick weekend 😊 love our annual couples trip,” Johnson East captioned a series of Instagram photos from the pair’s vacation to the Bahamas. “Also, love a good trampoline.”
Johnson East and Andrew were both recruited to compete on season 4 of Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test. The couple exclusively told Us before the premiere that the Directing Staff — a.k.a. the ex-United States Special Forces operatives who trained them — “tried really hard” to figure out what their “breaking points” were.
“Every time they tried to pit us against each other, I think they just kind of got frustrated because we were, like, not shaken by it at all,” Johnson East revealed.
She recalled, “I remember I was put in a room once with the [Directing Staff], and they’re like, ‘Isn’t it just so annoying? Like, how he comes running and he’s breathing down your neck when he thinks you’re hurt?’ I was like, ‘I kind of think it’s endearing. It’s kind of great.’”
Andrew added that the experience brought them “closer together” and let him see his wife “in competition mode,” which he said was “unbelievable.”
