Before they turned any red chairs, The Voice coaches knew they had a special bond.
Ahead of the season 28 premiere of NBC’s singing competition series on September 22, Us Weekly obtained an exclusive clip of Reba McEntire, Niall Horan, Snoop Dogg and Michael Bublé recalling the moment they knew they were all going to be friends.
“I think it was the first moment for me. I’m one of those kinds of guys where the spirit has to connect instantly,” Snoop, 53, explained. “As soon as I walked through the room, as soon as we sat down next to each other, you could feel it. It’s in the air.”
While the rapper’s family was happy to hear he was working alongside McEntire, 70, and Bublé, 49, it was Horan, 31, who truly impressed his relatives.
“When I said your name, it’s, like, instant heartthrob,” he joked. “It’s a whole nother thing you know what I’m saying.”
Before joining The Voice as a coach in season 24, McEntire — who previously served as a mentor for the show — remembered each of her fellow coaches in unique places.
“I met [Snoop] on a plane. We were coming back from Africa or Amsterdam. We met, took a picture together,” she recalled. “I met [Bublé] at Celebrity Fight Night in Phoenix and then being a mentor on The Voice, I met [Horan] and we hit it off.”
While every coach is thrilled to work with McEntire, Horan expressed just how excited he was to be on the coaches panel alongside the country music legend.
“I was so happy when you were coming on season 24 because at that point, I don’t think you had signed up to do it,” he said. “You were just coming on to mentor and then Blake [Shelton] left and thank God you came. It was so fun.”
Season 28 of The Voice is expected to feature plenty of undiscovered talent from a variety of musical genres.
In a first for the NBC series, a new rule change will give host Carson Daly some serious power.
“Sometimes I see great singers fall through the cracks,” Daly, 52, said in a trailer for the new season. “And I’ve never been able to do anything about it — until now.”
The Voice season 28 premieres Monday, September 22, at 8 p.m. ET on NBC and will continue to air on Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET.
