Where Jessica Simpson and Ex Eric Johnson Stand After Las Vegas Reunion

Jessica Simpson and her estranged husband, Eric Johnson, are still moving forward with their separation despite their recent reunion in Las Vegas, a source exclusively tells Us Weekly.

“They are not getting back together or reconciling,” the source says.

Simpson and Johnson, both 45, raised eyebrows on Friday, August 29, when they were spotted flying to Vegas together on a Southwest Airlines flight. Later that evening, they attended the first show of her sister Ashlee Simpson’s residency at Voltaire at The Venetian Resort.

“It was a family event, and Eric was being supportive,” the source explains. “He wanted to support Ashlee.”

Ashlee’s residency celebrates the upcoming 20th anniversary of her 2005 album, I Am Me. She had two sold-out shows over Labor Day weekend, with five more scheduled for later this month. Aside from a brief performance in West Hollywood last year, it marks the first time that the “Pieces of Me” singer, 40, has been on stage solo since 2008.

Jessica is also in the midst of a musical comeback, having released an EP, Nashville Canyon, Part 1, in March, with Part 2 debuting this Friday, September 5, following a 15-year hiatus.

While Jessica wrote and recorded the projects around the time of her split from Johnson (song titles include “Leave” and “Hopeless Romance”), the source tells Us that the former couple are on better terms these days.

“Jessica and Eric have been very amicable recently and have been peaceful for the sake of the kids,” the source says, referencing their daughters, Maxwell, 13, and Birdie, 6, and son, Ace, 12.

Us Weekly has reached out to Jessica’s rep for comment.

After months of rumors, Jessica confirmed in January that she and Johnson had been “living separately” due to an undisclosed “painful situation” in their 10-year marriage.

“Our children come first, and we are focusing on what is best for them,” she added in a statement to Us. “We are grateful for all of the love and support that has been coming our way and appreciate privacy right now as we work through this as a family.”

Weeks later, Ashlee exclusively told Us that her sister was in “the best, best spirits,” adding, “We are strong little ladies, and, you know, I think that’s a cool thing about life is just always growing and finding yourself, wherever that’s supposed to be.”

Jessica and Johnson have yet to file for divorce, with a source close to the fashion designer telling Us in May that they are currently focused on “navigating their new truth” instead.

“They are getting along well, and everyone seems to be very happy,” the source added. “They talk and see each other all the time and have decided that no matter what happens, they will get along for the kids.”
