According to savvy Swifties, the timing of Taylor Swift’s engagement announcement was entirely mapped out.
Sharing the news via a joint Instagram post with husband-to-be Travis Kelce on Tuesday, August 26, Swift, 35, may have chosen the day as a nod to track No. 26 on her 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Department — “The Prophecy.”
The song’s lyrics, which include “Don’t want money / Just someone who wants my company” within the chorus, discusses Swift’s desire to find love. The track asks, “Who do I have to speak to / About if they can redo the prophecy?”
As one TikTok user shared via a Tuesday post, “She announces her engagement on Aug 26 … what is Track 26?? The Prophecy (about being doomed in love). By saying YES to Travis, she literally broke her own ‘prophecy.’”
The post also cleverly pointed out that August is month eight (8) of the year: a numerical symbol linked to infinity, which looks like a sideways eight. As the user best summed up, Swift’s announcement may have referenced “forever.”
Other fans noted that Swift, who dated Kelce, 35, for two years before saying yes in a rose-filled Lee’s Summit garden in Missouri almost two weeks prior to the announcement, chose to reveal her news 13 days after her debut on Kelce’s “New Heights” podcast.
The timing may have nodded to Swift’s longheld and well-recognized favorite number.
Eagled-eyed Swifties also theorized that day 26 of the month was chosen to represent the merging of her favorite number — 13 + 13 equates to 26 — as two individuals unite.
Swifties have been hard at work in recent weeks, also discovering multiple references to the pop star’s lucky number during an August 6 press conference staged by Kelce on day 13 of the Kansas City Chiefs’ training camp.
Fans took to social media at the time to share what they’d picked up on. “You are telling me that Travis Kelce hasn’t spoken to the media all Training Camp, but his first time just HAPPENS to fall on Day 13,” one X user wrote at the time. “The Swifties have fully infiltrated the Chiefs media team.”
Kelce’s press conference also referenced how long he has been with the Chiefs, another reference that wasn’t lost on Swift fans. “I’ve been lucky to be here for my 13th year now,” Kelce said. “I just absolutely love this organization.”
The couple announced their engagement on Tuesday via a loved-up carousel of snaps taken on the day Kelce popped the question. “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” Swift captioned the shared post, flexing her cryptic flair once again by referencing her profound lyricism and Kelce’s remarkable NFL achievements.
