3 Great Horror Movies to Watch on Hulu and HBO Max in September 2025

As demonstrated by The Conjuring: Last Rites, horror movies are back in season at the box office. But there are still plenty of horror films you can stream at home.

The Watch With Us team has looked over the newly arrived films from Netflix, Hulu, HBO Max and more to put together our picks for the three must-watch horror movies you need to stream in September.

This year’s horror breakout, Weapons, is still a few months away from streaming. In the meantime, we’ve chosen the directorial debut of one of the Stranger Things kids, a great Dracula adaptation and a seminal moment where horror and comedy collided.

‘Hell of Summer’ (2025)

Stranger ThingsFinn Wolfhard and actor Billy Bryk met on the set of Ghostbusters: Afterlife, which led the pair to create and co-direct Hell of a Summer. This horror comedy is a homage to the genre films of the ’80s, especially the Friday the 13th franchise. Fred Hechinger stars as Jason Hochberg, a 24-year-old man who is unable to let go of his summer camp memories.

Jason’s enthusiasm for Camp Pineway isn’t shared by his fellow camp counselors, including Bobby (Bryk) and Chris (Wolfhard). But as the counselors start hooking up with each other, a masked killer stalks and kills them one by one. This may be a comedic horror story, but it doesn’t shy away from the gore.

Hell of a Summer is streaming on Hulu.

‘Bram Stoker’s Dracula’ (1992)

There have been countless Dracula adaptations over the last century, but it’s very rarely been done as well as the 1992 film by director Francis Ford Coppola. Bram Stoker’s Dracula plays up the idea of a love story between the title character and Mina Harker (Winona Ryder) by inventing a new origin for Dracula (Gary Oldman). Centuries ago, Vlad the Impaler’s enemies tricked his wife, Elisabeta (Ryder), into committing suicide. That led Vlad to renounce God and become a vampire.

In the late 19th century, Dracula torments a solicitor, Jonathan Harker (Keanu Reeves), and becomes convinced that Harker’s wife, Mina, is his lost love reborn. As Dracula pursues Mina and spreads his curse, Professor Abraham Van Helsing (Anthony Hopkins) may be the only one who can help the Harkers save Mina’s soul.

Bram Stoker’s Dracula is streaming on Netflix.

‘Evil Dead II’ (1987)

If you’ve ever seen Army of Darkness, then you know just how hilarious that film is compared to the two Evil Dead movies that came before it. Evil Dead II is still primarily a horror film, but this is the movie where director Sam Raimi embraced the comedic elements as well.

Bruce Campbell reprises his role as Ash Williams, a young man who takes an ill-advised vacation to the woods with his girlfriend, Linda (Denise Bixler). While there, Ash accidentally awakens evil spirits from the Book of the Dead, the  Necronomicon Ex-Mortis, which murder Linda and transform her into a Deadite. Ash soon faces his own dark reflection as the Deadites attempt to steal his soul as well.

Evil Dead II is streaming on HBO Max.
