Why Kristin Cavallari Is Taking a Break From Her Podcast, Deleting TikTok

Kristin Cavallari is taking a hard look at her life and is ready to cut out what’s not serving her — including TikTok and her podcast, at least for now.

“I’ve been in a sort of weird, interesting energy. I feel like this is a turning point for me in my life,” Cavallari, 38, revealed during the Tuesday, September 9, episode of her “Let’s Be Honest” podcast. “I’m living in this very excited energy. I’m feeling a little rebellious.”

The Uncommon James founder explained that part of that rebellion has been getting rid of TikTok, changing her phone number and deciding to press pause on her podcast. (It’s “temporary,” according to Cavallari.)

“I deleted TikTok. I deleted it off of my phone,” Cavallari said. “I’m in this mode right now of realizing that I get to control what comes into our lives. Who has access to us. Who gets to give an opinion.”

The Laguna Beach alum noted, “I’ve just decided protecting my peace is the most important thing for me.”

Amid her self-reflection, Cavallari said she realized she was “in this weird funk” following the conclusion of her latest reality show venture: Honestly Cavallari: The Headline Tour.

“I’ve just felt really accessible,” Cavallari confessed. She said that having “so many people’s opinions” pushed upon her while filming, touring and doing “the press circus” made her want to retreat from the public eye on social media and beyond.

When it comes to TikTok specifically, Cavallari said she is her “own algorithm,” revealing, “I get fed a lot of these videos about me and it drives me crazy.”

Although Cavallari tries to avoid the comments, admitting, “I inevitably do see them sometimes,” which factored into her deleting the app for now.

Cavallari also said that TikTok and the onslaught of information it feeds everyone, “makes us question everything we are doing in our life.”

She claimed, “Social media prays on our insecurities. I do feel like we’ve all lost the ability to listen to ourselves.”

Cavallari took it a step further, alleging, “The phone is definitely a numbing agent.” That outlook on technology led The Hills alum to change her phone number.

“I was very selective with who I gave my new number to,” she told her listeners, saying that it has added to her “harnessing this peace” in her life.

Cavallari recalled going through her recent text messages and “that was who I decided to text” about the number change. “I figure if someone is important to me and is supposed to be in my life, they’ll figure out how to get a hold of me,” she confessed.

“There were a lot of people who had access to me that I didn’t want to have access to me,” she added, pointing out that she’s had the same number for five years following her divorce from Jay Cutler. (Cavallari and Cutler, who share three children, split in April 2020.)

While trying to find her peace in the next few months, Cavallari said she will be “on hiatus for a little bit” with her podcast as well.

She promised to keep her listeners updated on when she’ll be back via social media. In the meantime, Cavallari said she wants to learn Italian and play board games with her kids.

When “Let’s Be Honest” podcast returns, Cavallari teased she’ll be doing a few rewatch episodes of The Hills.

“I hope you guys know that your support with everything I do, especially this podcast, is so incredible. It really means the world to me,” she concluded. “I just feel very lucky that I am able to have a podcast and speak directly to you guys.”
