‘Nobody Wants This’ Season 2

An atheist sex podcaster (Kristen Bell) and a single rabbi (Adam Brody) find themselves falling in love against the odds in this sweet, hilarious romantic comedy series. Season 2 brings back characters Joanne Williams and Noah Roklov as they continue to navigate the melting pot of their relationship, juggling their extremely different lives and prying family members. Season 1 ended with their romantic entanglement on something of a cliffhanger.

The series has been praised for its handling of interfaith romance and for the fantastic chemistry between Bell and Brody. The comedic moments are often pleasantly unpredictable while the narrative is infused with genuine emotional stakes that keep you locked in alongside the characters.

Stream season 2 of Nobody Wants This on October 23 on Netflix.

‘A House of Dynamite’ (2025)

This non-linear thriller details multiple different perspectives of government officials dealing with the reality of a missile heading towards Earth. When an unattributed object is tracked via radar and determined to be heading straight for Chicago, it is a race to figure out where it’s come from and how to respond. We follow people like the senior officer in the White House Situation Romo (Rebecca Ferguson), the Deputy National Security Advisor (Gabriel Basso), and the President himself (Idris Elba) as they each respond to the moment.

Centered on the threat of a nuclear missile, A House of Dynamite manages to be scarier than any fantastical horror story. With gripping performances from its stellar ensemble cast, the non-linear narrative adds a compelling layer to a story that might otherwise be another run-of-the-mill political thriller. Instead, A House of Dynamite is a terrifying pressure cooker waiting to boil over.

Stream A House of Dynamite on October 24 on Netflix.

‘Companion’ (2025)

Iris (Sophie Thatcher) and Josh (Jack Quaid) seem to have the perfect, loving relationship, and the pair takes a weekend getaway at a woodland retreat with some friends. There, it becomes clear that Josh’s friends harbor some strange misgivings about Iris — and it’s because she’s actually a subservient android. When Iris is attached by one of the other guests and defends herself violently, her actions cause things to devolve into chaos.

Companion is a funny, wildly entertaining sci-fi thriller film about real-life anxieties surrounding artificial intelligence and its capacity to truly replace human connection. While the premise alone is engaging, there are several twists and turns that you likely won’t be expecting. Gorgeous to look at with eye-popping colors, Companion also boasts two great lead performances from Thatcher and Quaid.

Stream Companion now on Amazon Prime Video.

‘Weapons’ (2025)

One day, Justine Gandy’s (Julia Garner) third grade class all leave home in the middle of the night and never return — all of them, except for one student. Confused, grieving and looking for someone to blame, the parents of the suburban community of Maybrook, PA all want to blame Justine, but the truth is far darker than an elementary school teacher with a drinking problem. Told through non-linear, overlapping perspectives from the key players, the horror hidden in Maybrook is progressively revealed.

Director Zach Cregger’s follow-up to Barbarian has been hailed as a major improvement upon a directorial debut that already had audiences and critics impressed. Stylistically, narratively, and emotionally, Weapons ups its ambitions, producing a genre-bending horror epic that many have compared to Paul Thomas Anderson’s Magnolia (which Cregger was openly inspired by). Of course, while you’re watching, you might just be too scared to be so impressed.

Stream Weapons on HBO Max on October 24.

On June 7, 2021, Richard Alexander “Alex” Murdaugh murdered his wife, Maggie, and their son, Paul. Alex was sentenced to two consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole — how did this pristine, wealthy family known to many in South Carolina end in tragedy? Their patriarch, Alex, led a second life of profound corruption. This limited series takes a look at the family and the events that led to the tragic murder and is based on the Murdaugh Murders Podcast, which investigated and blogged the case as it unfolded.

Alex and Maggie Murdaugh are played by Patricia Arquette and Jason Clarke, respectively, and their performances have been rightly praised. For a crime that’s been given the documentary and podcast treatments already, you might be wondering why we need a limited narrative series as well. Well, because it’s really entertaining to watch fantastic actors bring sordid crime to life, and Murdaugh: Death in the Family does that in spades.
