“I do feel like there’s a strong chance that that’s a possibility,” he exclusively told Us Weekly in June 2023 about the show potentially straying from the original events in the books. “Obviously, I know where [my character Jeremiah] ends up going and what ends up happening. But I don’t emphasize on that. Because I think Jenny writes it so well that I’m able to kind of get there naturally without having to force it a certain direction.”

"It was all so familiar. We have been here before, just like this, only two Christmases ago. So much had happened since then."
In a flashback sequence, readers find out that Belly and Conrad secretly spent time together at Cousins during her relationship with Jeremiah. Belly visited the summer home thinking she would be alone but instead she ran into Conrad and spent the holidays with her ex.
"It was maybe the most intimate thing anyone had ever done to me."
Belly moves into the beach house at Cousins — where Conrad is also staying — after a fight with her mom, Laurel, in the third book. The decision creates the perfect opportunity for Belly and Conrad to spend a lot of time together as she prepares for her wedding with Jeremiah.
In an iconic scene from We'll Always Have Summer, the twosome stop at a fruit stand and Conrad wipes Belly's face with his shirt.
"We'll get through it tomorrow. I promise. It'll be you and me, kid."
Conrad selflessly reaches out to Laurel to convince her to support Belly's decision to get married. Even though Conrad doesn't want his ex-girlfriend to marry his brother, he asks Laurel to reconsider her position because he knows how much it would mean to Belly.
The moment becomes emotional when Laurel brings up how much she misses Conrad's late mother, Susannah, who would know what to do in this situation.
"Don't marry him. Don't be with him. Be with me."
During a pivotal moment in the third novel, Conrad overhears a conversation between Jeremiah and his friends about how his brother cheated on Belly. Conrad tells Belly — thinking she doesn't know — which turns into a love confession.
"I sat on the bench and opened the paper up. It said, 'Dear Conrad.' And then I started to cry too."
The Fisher brothers finally address their individual feelings for Belly on Belly and Jeremiah's wedding day. Jeremiah runs away after Belly tells him about how Conrad still loves her, which turns into a physical fight between the siblings.
In a heartbreaking moment, Conrad tries to reassure Jeremiah by giving him a letter from Susannah. However, the cards have been labeled wrong and Jeremiah instead gets the note Susannah wrote for Conrad where she discussed his love for Belly.
"This is our start. This is the moment it becomes real. We are married. We are infinite. Me and Conrad. The first boy I ever slow danced with, ever cried over. Ever loved."
After calling off the wedding to Jeremiah, Belly must choose where her journey goes from there. She decides to study abroad in Spain, where Conrad sends her a letter. The pair start to correspond as pen pals, which leads to them rekindling their epic romance.
We'll Always Have Summer ends on Belly and Conrad's wedding day as everyone heads to their reception. Belly and Conrad, however, have one stop to make at the beach where they jump into the water as a throwback to their love story.
