Britney Spears Worries Kevin Federline's Book Will Build 'Barrier' With Sons

1 day ago 2

Britney Spears has made progress in her relationship with her once-estranged sons over the past year, but she worries Kevin Federline‘s explosive new memoir will undo it, a source exclusively tells Us Weekly.

“She’s been overjoyed in her relationship with her boys, and Kevin’s allegations built another barrier she has to overcome with them now,” the insider explains.

Spears, 43, first “spoke with” Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19, about Federline’s upcoming book, You Thought You Knew, “weeks ago,” according to the source, but she plans to talk to them again “when she knows all of what Kevin is claiming.”

Various excerpts from Federline’s tell-all have been making the rounds online ahead of its release next Tuesday, October 21. Among other bombshells, the former backup dancer, 47, claims his ex-wife made out with another woman just a few weeks into their relationship, called her ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake the night before their wedding and snorted cocaine at a party when she was still breast-feeding, which was his “final straw.”

Spears called out Federline’s “white lies” in a lengthy social media post on Wednesday, October 15, writing in part, “The constant gaslighting from [my] ex-husband is extremely hurtful and exhausting. … [He is] going straight to the bank and I am the only one who genuinely gets hurt here.”

Her rep has also spoken out, telling Us on Tuesday, October 14, “All she cares about are her kids, Sean Preston and Jayden James, and their well-being during this sensationalism.”

The source echoes that Spears is “really upset and shocked” about Federline’s accusations.

“She thinks he’s trying to set her up again in a conservatorship, and she knows that’s not going to happen,” the insider says, referencing the legal arrangement that controlled Spears’ life and multimillion-dollar estate from 2008 to 2021. “She thinks Kevin is trying to distance the boys from her again as their relationship has been building. His allegations are a desperate attempt to make money, but she does believe people will see his intentions.”

During an exclusive interview with Us on Wednesday, Federline — who no longer receives $40,000-a-month child support checks from Spears — denied that his memoir is a cash grab.

“Money’s not the root of this thing,” he insisted. “I feel like, if she has the right to tell her story, why don’t I?” (Spears released her own bestseller, The Woman in Me, in 2023.)

Federline also poured cold water on concerns that his tell-all will affect Preston and Jayden’s relationship with their mom, telling Us, “This isn’t my children’s book, right? It’s my book. So, I hope that it doesn’t. I’m only hoping that it helps this situation.”

The source reveals that Spears is “not going to read” You Thought You Knew but will “have someone let her know everything written only about her in the book.” As of now, she is “not considering legal action,” according to the insider.

Spears and Federline have not spoken in years — he told Us he “couldn’t even remember” their last conversation, while the source estimates it was “around 2019” — but she is sensing a familiar pattern.

“She knew during their marriage that he resented her because of her fame and money,” the insider tells Us. “She knew he didn’t protect her, and it’s no surprise now that he’s still not protecting the mother of his children.”

Although Spears has been “sleep-deprived” due to the renewed drama, the source assures fans that she is “taking care of herself and trying to stay calm.”

Us Weekly has reached out to Spears’ rep and Federline’s lawyer for comment.
