Celebs Who've Been Host and Musical Guest on the Same 'SNL' Episode

Being asked to host or perform on an episode of Saturday Night Live is a big deal in and of itself — but even more so when a star gets the chance to do both in one night.

Harry Styles joined the impressive club in November 2019, making fans laugh in several sketches before crooning his hit songs “Lights Up” and “Watermelon Sugar” for the Studio 8H crowd.

“It is so great to be here hosting Saturday Night Live for the first time. I’m so excited to be here as more than just a musical guest, [it] feels amazing,” Styles — who previously performed on the NBC show four times — gushed in his monologue. “It feels like when you find out someone likes you as more than just a friend. Saturday Night Live and I have taken things to the next level and just like all my serious relationships, we’re all gonna spend one incredible night together, and then we’ll never see each other again.”

While Styles insisted that music was his No. 1 priority, he still had room for busting out his comedy chops, spending time with loved ones and having great hair. “I love being here at SNL. It has so much history,” Styles gushed.

“Oh, it really is great to be here in New York. I always have a good time here," the “9 to 5” songstress said in her April 1989 monologue. "But I have to be honest with you, though, I was a little nervous and a little worried about coming here. You know, it's Saturday Night Live and all, and you hear all kinds of things, but ... don't you folks believe that for a minute! These folks have gone out of their way to make me feel like one of the family.”

The Crossroads star became the youngest SNL host to pull double duty at the time when she made her show debut in May 2000.

Lopez became the first Latinx star to be both the host and musical guest more than once upon her 2010 stint.

The Fast and Furious actor rapped his hits “Money Maker” and “Runaway Love” when he hosted the show in November 2006.

“I like glitter and sparkly dresses, but I'm not gonna talk about that in my monologue,” the “All Too Well” songstress sang in her November 2009 musical monologue. “I like writing songs about douchebags who cheat on me, but I'm not gonna say that in my monologue. I like writing their names into songs so that they're ashamed to go in public, but I'm not gonna say that in my monologue. … This is my musical monologue!”

The “Rocketman” crooner pulled double duty in April 2011, nearly 29 years after his musical guest debut in April 1982.

The Grammy winner belted out “Locked out of Heaven” and “Young Girls” on the show in October 2012 after completing a range of funny sketches.

“I love hosting this show because it’s live, so my parents know where I’m at for at least 90 minutes,” the Hannah Montana alum joked in her October 2015 monologue. “Tonight I am on a seven-second delay — not a television delay, it’s just when you smoke as much as I do you’re always on a seven-second delay. And while I’m excited to be here, I’m also kind of sad because it feels like the summer of 2015 has officially come to an end.”

While the House of Gucci star sang on the SNL stage three separate times, she landed a coveted hosting gig in November 2013.

The Canada native tackled double duty in January 2014 and May 2016.

The “Positions” singer met her ex-fiancé, Pete Davidson, during her double duty stint in March 2016. 

The Community alum starred in a variety of sketches during his May 2018 debut before crooning “Saturday” and “This Is America” under his Childish Gambino moniker.

Styles previously served as the show’s musical guest four times: twice as a member of One Direction and twice as a solo artist.

“A dream come true. Let’s get it,” the Jonas Brothers performer gushed via Instagram in February 2021, weeks before his double duty gig.

“It’s so special to be hosting in December, not only do I love Christmas — and oh, my God, it’s so beautiful here at Christmas — but my birthday is one week from today,” the “Bad Guy” musician gushed in her December 2021 monologue during the annual holiday episode. “I am turning 20, or as the internet likes to call that: middle-aged. I’m actually really excited to get older because I’m, just now, starting to understand who I actually am as a person.”

While hosting in April 2022, the “Juice” singer introduced her own musical performance.

“I know it’s shocking that I’m nervous because I’m the one who said, ‘I just took a DNA test, turns out I’m 100 percent that bitch,’” Lizzo said in her monologue. “Well, to be completely honest, I’m really like 50 percent ‘that bitch,’ 10 percent ‘boss bitch’ and 40 percent ‘flute playing, band nerd bitch.’ But I’m thrilled to be hosting this particular episode, especially because I do love tonight’s musical guest: Me!”

“I can’t tell you all how excited I am to be here,” the rapper gushed during her October 2022 monologue. “Most of you know me as Megan Thee Stallion, but if you know me then you know I go by many names. Let’s see, we got Tina Snow, the Hot Girl Coach, the H-Town Hottie and if you are one of my many, many haters: I’m probably, ‘Ugh, that bitch.’”

The “First Class” rapper made his hosting debut during the October 29, 2022, episode of SNL, in which he was also the musical guest.

The rapper made his SNL hosting debut during season 49 in October 2023, where he used his opening monologue to discuss his excitement.

“My name is Benito and I’m so excited to be here on sábado, sorry SNL,” Bad Bunny quipped. “People [are] wondering if I can host this show because English is not my first language. I don’t know if they know, [but] I do whatever I want. So, I can host this show in English, I can order McDonald’s in English [and] I can have sex in English, but I prefer sex in Spanish because it’s better. I just prefer Spanish.”

Bad Bunny then enlisted surprise guest Pedro Pascal to help him “translate” the remainder of his opening remarks.

Bad Bunny later performed as the episode’s musical guest, and Lady Gaga even provided the introduction.

The pop star made her SNL hosting debut in May 2024.

“I’m here, I’m hosting [and] I’m performing,” she concluded her monologue, referring to the viral meme of herself with a seemingly open schedule. “I’m making the wigs, I’m dealing Adderall to the writers. I’m doing it all. So tonight, I promise you I’m going to give you everything.”

As the musical guest, Lipa performed “Illusion” and “Happy for You.”

The British singer hosted and sang during the November 16, 2024, episode of SNL.

“My name is Charli XCX. For those of you who may recognize me, you might know me from my album Brat, but don’t worry if you don’t,” she quipped in her monologue. “There is nothing wrong with being straight.”

Charli added, “I’ve come a long way, and today I consider myself to be a triple threat, which in England means I sing, I drink and I smoke.”

Chalamet hosted the January 25, 2025, episode of SNL, where he also performed a selection of his “personal favorite” Bob Dylan songs as musical guest. (He was promoting his role in the Dylan biopic, A Complete Unknown, for which he earned both a Golden Globe and Oscar nomination.)

Gaga hosted the March 8, 2025, episode of SNL — and also served as the episode’s musical guest. She performed two songs from her album Mayhem: “Abracadabra” and “Killah.”

Sabrina Carpenter pulled double duty on the October 18, 2025, edition of SNL season 51. The “Tears” singer performed "Manchild" and "Nobody's Son" from her seventh studio album, Man's Best Friend.
