Everything Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes Have Said About Their Blended Family

Since the start of their relationship in 2022, Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes both had to adjust to their blended family.

Robach was previously married to Tim McIntosh from 1996 to 2008. The pair share daughters Ava and Annalise, born in 2002 and 2006, respectively. Following their divorce in 2008, Robach moved on with former Melrose Place star Andrew Shue, and the pair tied the knot in 2010. (Shue and first wife Jennifer Hageney also share sons Nathaniel, Aidan and Wyatt, born in 1996, 1999 and 2004, respectively.)

After Robach was photographed cozying up with Holmes, Robach and Shue split and later finalized their divorce.

Holmes, for his part, was previously married to Amy Ferson until their split in 2007. The duo share daughter Brianna and son Jaiden. Following his divorce from Ferson, Holmes tied the knot with Marilee Fiebig in 2010, and they welcomed daughter Sabine in 2013. Fiebig and Holmes separated following the news of his relationship with Robach.

After their romance was made public, Robach and Holmes both talked about combining their own respective families, but it has come with some struggles.

“My daughter, I mean, she’s 10, I was still trying to get her adjusted to her new reality of her parents not being together. And I’d been working on that for the past three, four months,” Holmes said of his daughter Sabine on the “Amy & T.J.” podcast in December 2023. “So, I didn’t want to spring on her that early, ‘Oh, yeah, by the way, you know that Amy Robach, who you’ve known since you were 1?’ … Well, I’m dating her now.’”

Despite their familial hardships, Robach and Holmes announced their engagement in October 2025.

Amy Robach Is Still Apologizing to Her Daughters

During the first episode of Robach and Holmes’ “Amy & T.J.” podcast in December 2023, Robach said she is still “saying I’m sorry” to her daughters, who found out about her new relationship on the internet.

“It’s one thing for us to deal with the press and to deal with the headlines and, honestly, the paparazzi that have become as much a part of our lives as anything,” she explained. “They’re there all the time. And so when I’m with my children, when I’m with my daughters, they’re there and their pictures are being taken. … I just try to put myself in their shoes. It’s their family, and they’re so young, they don’t have the tools or the life experience to even really be able to put it into perspective. And it’s just been a really hard, hard journey that will continue. We’re all in therapy.”

Struggling With Their Holiday Plans

On an episode of their “Amy & T.J.” podcast in December 2023, Robach said she and Holmes were trying to take their children’s needs into consideration when it came to making holiday plans.

“I think a lot of people are in this situation. Everyone would love a nuclear, traditional family, and one divorce is hard enough trying to figure that out,” she explained. “Two divorces is even more complicated. I think we’re trying to do what our kids would like us to do, I think we’ve let them lead the way until now. I don’t think there’s a playbook or handbook for this.”

Robach noted that she and Holmes would still “spend time together” over the holidays, but they were still “trying to figure it out.”

“We’re both going to be here in New York and our daughters are going to be in New York, so we will piece it together,” she added.

Bonding With Each Other’s Kids

During an episode of their podcast in December 2023, Robach and Holmes said they had developed relationships with each other’s kids when they were “just friends,” but it was “tough” at first for them to adjust to them being a couple.

“My little one has known Robach since she was 1, and now she’s knowing Robach in a different way, in a different role, but it’s been the greatest,” Holmes shared, noting that he was allowing Sabine to “guide” their dynamic. “I’m always just open. ‘Robach is here, we’re hanging, do you want to do this?’ The past few months she has volunteered. ‘Robach is there, can I come by? You and Robach are doing what? Can I get a piece of that?’ Like, voluntarily.”

Holmes revealed that it has “been one of the most touching things” to see how much Sabine wants to be “included” and “enjoys time” with Robach.

Robach, for her part, added that she and Holmes have been “very thoughtful” and “very patient” as they navigate their children’s feelings.

“But things are good,” she gushed. “They’re peaceful. We want to continue to build on that.”

Spending Thanksgiving and Christmas Together for the 1st Time

During a December 2024 episode of the “Amy & T.J.” podcast, Robach said it has been a “long road coming” for her family to be spending time with Holmes’ family.

“So we’ve been together for more than two years, and this was our first Thanksgiving that we got to spend actually together, and this is going to be the first Christmas Eve and Christmas morning we wake up together,” she shared. “But we did that for our daughters. We let them lead the way, and we wanted them to be ready before any of this started.”

Holmes admitted that he was a “little anxious” going into spending the holidays together for the first time.

“You’re opening gifts in front of each other, you’re waking up together on the most important of holidays to a lot of folks,” he explained. “It’s just brand new. It’s brand new for everybody. As much as we’ve already spent a holiday together, it’s just Thanksgiving, [and] not all of us.”

Getting Close With Sabine Has Been a ‘Joy’ for Amy Robach

During a September 2024 episode of the “Amy & T.J.” podcast, Robach said it is a “joy” to have Holmes’ daughter Sabine around.

“I absolutely totally appreciate and actually really look forward to and love having that childlike [energy], that sweetness around. It’s awesome,” she gushed.
