General Hospital star Tristan Rogers has been diagnosed with cancer.
“Beloved Emmy-winning actor Tristan Rogers, best known for his role as Robert Scorpio on the daytime drama, General Hospital, is sharing with fans that he has been diagnosed with cancer,” a press release shared with Soap Opera Digest on Thursday, July 17, read.
The statement continued, “While he remains hopeful and is working closely with his medical team on a treatment plan, this is a challenging time for Tristan and his family. As they face both the emotional and physical burdens that come with this diagnosis, the family kindly asks for privacy and understanding.”
While the press release did not specify what type of cancer Rogers was diagnosed with, the statement noted that Rogers, 79, and his loved ones are “deeply grateful for the outpouring of support and love” they have received.
“Tristan sends his love to his fans and wants them to know how much he appreciates their loyalty and encouragement over the years,” the statement concluded. “This support means more to him now than ever. Future updates will be shared if deemed appropriate by Tristan and his family.”
Rogers is best known for playing D.A. Robert Scorpio, a character he first played on General Hospital in 1980 and has continued to portray on and off through the years. His most recent appearance as Robert on the beloved soap opera series was in November 2024.
He has also starred as Colin on Young and Restless from 2010-2012, 2014-2017 and 2019 as well as Hunter on The Bold and Beautiful in 1997. He also portrayed Doc on Studio City, where he earned a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Performance by a Supporting Actor in a Digital Drama Series.
Rogers has also voiced characters in The Wild Thornberrys, Batman Beyond, Aaahh!!! Real Monsters and The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest, per TVLine.
Ahead of his latest stint on the show, Rogers reflected on the role while talking to Soap Opera Digest.
“I’ve got a lot of stuff to do. It’s not just for two shows this time,” he shared in 2018, noting that the writing team aligned with his character’s personality. “Robert has always had kind of a glib approach to everything; he’s a bit of a smart-mouth.”
He teased, “I’m working with a lot of different people … And I think the fans are going to like it.”
