Glen Powell Breaks Silence About Gigi Paris Split, Addresses Her ‘Narrative’

9 hours ago 1

Glen Powell is breaking his silence — and shedding some light — on his split from Gigi Paris two years after they called it quits.

“I will always have nothing but love for her and respect for her,” Powell, 36, told GQ of Paris, 33, in an interview published on Tuesday, September 9.

Powell, however, revealed that he doesn’t exactly agree with what Paris has said about their split — and how his filming Anyone But You with Sydney Sweeney factored into it.

“Everybody’s always going to have their own narrative on things and all that,” he said. “And she’s welcome to it.”

He continued, “Relationships are really hard. And when two people break up, they each go to their own brunch, and they will each tell their own narrative.”

Powell’s rare comments about Paris come three months after the model broke her silence over the rumors surrounding the circumstance of their April 2023 split.

“It was just, this is what I have to do for my job. I had two options. I could either pretend like I was going along with everything and have everyone wonder, like, ‘Are they hooking up? Are they not hooking up? Is she OK with this? What the f***?’” Paris claimed during a June episode of the “Too Much” podcast of how she handled speculation that Powell and Sweeney, 27, were more than just coworkers after getting cozy on set and during the film’s promo tour.

She explained her thought process at the time, adding, “Or stand up for myself and say, ‘No, I’m actually not OK with this, and I’m walking away.’ So that’s what I decided to do.”

Powell and Paris dated for three years, parting ways before he wrapped filming Anyone But You in Australia.

At the time, Paris shared a cryptic social media message hinting at her and Powell’s breakup, writing via Instagram, “Know your worth & onto the next.”

While some fans thought Paris and Powell called it quits because of his alleged relationship with Sweeney — who was engaged to Jonathan Davino at the time but the two have since split — it wasn’t until June that Paris publicly addressed the chatter.

Paris said on the “Too Much” podcast that she was “shattered” by the way everything played out in the public eye, noting she just “wanted respect” from Powell.

“What sucked was how it was handled. I felt like I was just fed to the dogs,” she revealed.

Paris claimed that Powell chose not to publicly denounce the false narrative about a relationship between him and Sweeney because it was “serving them for their PR.” (Powell later claimed on the Today show in 2023 that there was “no” romance with Sweeney, but said, “We do love each other.”)

To fit in with the movie’s alleged press plan, Paris further alleged that Powell called her and said, “The producers and I have discussed that I think it’s best that you don’t come visit.” She recalled hanging up the phone and deciding then that they were done.

Us Weekly previously reported in March that there was “nothing going on romantically between Glen and Sydney,” with a source saying, “They are just friends.”

Powell, for his part, didn’t discuss his and Paris’ relationship further with GQ, but did share the advice he received from Tom Cruise about focusing on his career and that alone.

“He basically said, ‘Hey, it’s going to get really, really loud. It’s your job to just turn the volume down. Just remember you have your hand on that switch. You have your hand on the ability to turn up that noise or turn it down,’” Powell told the outlet on Tuesday. “And really just turning down the noise and trusting your own gut has been a real godsend for me.”
