Dehydration is a top skincare concern during the summer, so Us Weekly spoke with NYC-based aesthetician Jess Bowers to discover the best solutions for scoring super-moisturized, glowy skin.
The celebrity facialist — who sees clients from around the world from a private skin speakeasy in the West Village — believes less is always more when it comes to treating your complexion, a philosophy she adopted during regular trips to France.
“People always ask me how to keep their skin plump and hydrated throughout the hot weather months,” she shares. Her answer stays the same: “Fewer products and a consistent routine.”
Bowers goes on to reveal the common beauty mistakes that leave the face feeling and looking parched — and no, it’s not just about excessive sun exposure.
“Many people don’t use a gentle exfoliator to remove the buildup of sweat and SPF,” she states, noting that another frequent error is using facial oil on its own. “It can pull moisture from the skin, leaving it dehydrated,” she says. “Use a facial moisturizer first, then apply a drop of oil on top — or simply mix it into your moisturizer.”
As far as her go-to oils, Goop Beauty’s All-in-One Super Nutrient Face Oil remains a splurgeworthy favorite that she often incorporates into treatments for an extra hydration boost. For a more budget-friendly option, she recommends mixing in a small amount of jojoba oil or glycerin oil. “It’s like putting your moisturizer on turbo speed,” she jokes.

If you want skin-quenching products to penetrate more effectively, prevent clogged pores — often due to excess heat and certain sunscreens — with a gentle buffer like the Seaweed Bath Co. Exfoliating Jelly Cleanser.
After washing her face, the pro spritzes Wild Bae’s Balancing Bamboo Spray before applying lotion. The result: better product absorption, meaning your skin gets maximum moisture!
When it comes to serums, look for an antioxidant-rich pick that focuses on moisturizing and stabilizing skin. Chanel’s Hydra Beauty Micro Sérum is the aesthetician’s splurgeworthy choice!
Reach for a moisturizer infused with hydration heroes like glycerin and hyaluronic acid. "Pamela Anderson nailed it with Sonsie Multi Moisture Cream,” Bowers dishes, noting that the multipurpose blend from the actress’ skincare line helps deliver a “plump, glowy look.”
A strong skin barrier is non-negotiable if you’re striving for a luminous appearance. Facial sunblock — like Bowers’ trusty La Roche-Posay Anthelios Mineral Tinted Sunscreen SPF 50 — offers protection and imparts lightweight coverage that’s perfect for summer.
Years ago, a French pharmacist in St. Barts introduced Bowers to Avène Thermal Spring Water. “She told me it’s the secret weapon to prevent moisture loss and alleviate redness” — two common skincare woes during hotter months that can cause dullness.
Swap heavy formulas for lightweight and creamy ones — such as the Pocket Blush in Sprinkle from Hailey Bieber's brand, Rhode. “I like to dab it on my cheeks, lips and even lids to make my eye color pop,” Bowers says.
When Bowers doesn’t have access to a face ice bath (dunking your face in a bowl of ice water for five to 10 seconds and repeating three times), using the Sofie Pavitt Face Nice Ice Toner Pods is her trick to depuff and invigorate the skin.
The skincare guru loves to enhance her glow on the face and body with Dior’s Solar The Sublimating Oil, which is enriched with nourishing sweet almond oil, meadowsweet oil and a plant-based squalane.
