Travis Kelce’s ex-girlfriend Kayla Nicole reposted a video about choosing “joy” hours after the NFL player announced his engagement to Taylor Swift.
Nicole, 33, shared a video of Tracee Ellis Ross via her Instagram Story on Tuesday, August 26, where the actress, 52, talked about the difference between joy and happiness.
“I think joy is different from happiness,” Ross said in the clip. “I feel like happiness is something you can get at 7-Eleven and joy is something that you earn and work for and takes practice. I feel like joy has legs. I feel like joy has feet. I feel like joy has roots. I feel like joy creates space and allows room for more than just a good day. I think joy is an attitude. I think joy is a perspective, and I think joy is a lens through which I live and look at my life.”
In a caption shared over the video, Nicole added, “Read about this very concept years ago in a book called Choose Joy: Because Happiness Isn’t Enough. I aspire! So so good.”
Nicole and Kelce, 35, dated off and on for five years before calling it quits in 2022. The Kansas City Chiefs tight end famously moved on with Swift, also 35, the following year. The couple announced their engagement on Tuesday in an Instagram post with the caption, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”
Earlier this year, Nicole said she doesn’t plan on dating again unless she’s certain that the relationship will end in marriage and a family.
“I am like John Cena now with men,” she said during an April episode of her “The Pre-Game With Kayla Nicole” podcast. “You don’t see me. You don’t see me with a man, and you will never see me with a man until I’m married with kids. Scout’s honor.”
She went on to acknowledge that some suitors might interpret that as her “being sneaky,” but she sees her tactics differently.
“I’m protecting me and I’m protecting you,” she explained. “I don’t think I ever want to publicly date another man until I am absolutely sure that they are my long-term person, just because I want to protect the things that mean the most to me.”
In the same episode, Nicole said she had no regrets about attending this year’s Super Bowl, where her ex-boyfriend’s Chiefs lost to the Philadelphia Eagles.
“I didn’t think twice about it,” she said. “The biggest day in sports? The biggest game of all the games? … I want to go to every game.”
