Kelly Clarkson has canceled her upcoming benefit concert appearance in Texas following the death of her ex-husband and former manager, Brandon Blackstock.
The official Instagram account for the Band Together Texas benefit concert shared a post via their Instagram Stories confirming Clarkson, 43, will not be attending the Sunday, August 17 event.
“Unfortunately, Kelly Clarkson will be unable to appear at Band Together Texas as planned, due to personal circumstances,” the Monday, August 11, statement read. “We send our love to Kelly and her family.”
The concert will still take place at the Moody Center in Austin, Texas, and will feature performances from Miranda Lambert, Parker McCollum, Ryan Bingham, Wade Bowen, Ronnie Dunn, Dylan Gossett, Jack Ingram, Cody Johnson, Lyle Lovett, Lukas Nelson, Jon Randall and Randy Rogers Band.
The fundraiser will benefit the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country and the Central Texas Community Foundation after severe flooding claimed the lives of 130 people in the Hill Country region in early July.
“Band Together Texas aims to rally critical support for flood-impacted communities and their ongoing needs as they recover and rebuild,” the event’s official website says.
Clarkson previously postponed the remaining August performances of her Las Vegas residency at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace, revealing Blackstock was “ill” in a post shared via her Instagram on August 6.
“I am sincerely sorry to everyone who bought tickets to the shows and I so appreciate your grace, kindness and understanding,” she wrote at the time.
Blackstock died one day later at age 48 after a three-year battle with melanoma.
“It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away. Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family,” a family rep said in a statement to Us Weekly. “We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time.”
Clarkson and Blackstock wed in 2013 and welcomed children River and Remington in 2014 and 2016, respectively. The pair split in 2020 and were embroiled in a tumultuous legal battle before their divorce was finalized in 2022. (Blackstock also shared kids Savannah, 23, and Seth, 18, with ex-wife Melissa Ashworth.)
The family remembered Blackstock as a “dreamer” who “changed lives” in his obituary.
“Brandon didn’t do anything halfway,” the obituary said. “He charged into life with both guns blazing. He was a cowboy … and valued the cowboy way of life. He drove a big truck, rode a good horse, and removed his hat when he introduced himself. He was a sharpshooter, a man’s man, and a true gentleman. He loved a hard day’s work that started early and finished late.”
The obituary revealed a celebration of life will take place on Sunday.
