Revisiting And Just Like That's Most Unhinged Moments Before Series Finale

14 hours ago 1

And Just Like That is officially ending after its third season, but the show featured some wild plot lines over the years that will be hard for fans to forget.

The Sex and the City spinoff was quickly met with mixed reviews after it premiered on HBO Max in 2021. Starring Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis as Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte, respectively, many viewers weren’t able to get over the absence of Kim Cattrall as Samantha, who rounded out the friend group on the original series.

AJLT introduced new characters — including Che Diaz (Sara Ramirez), Seema Patel (Sarita Choudhury) and Lisa Todd Wexley (Nicole Ari Parker) — but never quite found its footing.

Weeks before the season 3 finale, showrunner Michael Patrick King announced in August 2025 that the series would not return.

“And just like that … the ongoing storytelling of the Sex And The City universe is coming to an end. While I was writing the last episode of And Just Like That season three, it became clear to me that this might be a wonderful place to stop,” read a statement shared via social media. “Along with Sarah Jessica Parker, Casey Bloys and Sarah Aubrey, we decided to end the popular series this year with a two-part finale and extended the original series order from 10 episodes to 12.”

King continued, “SJP and I held off announcing the news until now because we didn’t want the word ‘final’ to overshadow the fun of watching the season. It’s with great gratitude we thank all the viewers who have let these characters into their homes and their hearts over these many years.”

Parker addressed the news in a statement of her own, reflecting on her journey as Carrie, who “changed homes, time zones, boyfriends, her mind, her shoes, her hair, but never her love and devotion to New York City.”

She told fans, “I hope you love these final two episodes as much as we all do.”

Ahead of the series finale, Us is taking a look back at some of the most outrageous story lines on AJLT — from podcasts to unplanned pregnancies:

The Peloton of It All

AJLT began with a bang in 2021, killing off Mr. Big (Chris Noth) in a dramatic moment that put Peloton in the hot seat. Big (or John, as Carrie called him) died of a heart attack in the first episode after working out on his stationary bike. Carrie found him on the floor and failed to call 911 right away, sparking a Titanic-level debate about whether she could have saved him by just trying a little harder.

Drama continued off screen when a spokesperson for Peloton claimed “HBO did not disclose the larger context” of how the bike would be used on the show. However, all the chatter seemed to work in the company’s favor — Peloton released an ad starring Noth that declared, “He’s alive.”

When Carrie Was a Podcaster

Sure, her eventual novel wasn’t much better, but Carrie’s short-lived podcast career caused some serious confusion among fans. “I feel like someone needs to sit Carrie Bradshaw down and explain what a podcast is,” one viewer wrote via social media at the time, wondering how live calls could be answered on a prerecorded podcast. Others were surprised Carrie was so uncomfortable with discussing NSFW topics when her claim to fame was being a sex columnist. And what are the rules about hooking up with your podcast producer so soon after watching your husband die in your arms?

Miranda’s Entire Arc

Justice for Steve! Miranda became enamored with Che after seeing their “comedy concert” — a real thing that was said on this show — during a low point in her marriage. Not only did Miranda cheat on Steve with Che, but the duo also hooked up in Carrie’s plain sight. Miranda and Steve ultimately separated, but her love affair with Che barely even survived the show’s second season.

While grappling with her divorce and evolving identity, Miranda also gave up drinking — but she nearly broke sobriety in season 3 when she found another new love interest. (Then threw said love interest’s expensive bottle of gin down the garbage chute.)

Couture in a Blizzard

One season 2 episode still lives rent-free in Us‘ head years later. A snowstorm threatened to put several swanky NYC events on hold — including Carrie’s keynote address at WidowCon (seriously) — but the women pushed through in their high-fashion outfits, walking through a “bomb cyclone” to keep their social calendars full. Charlotte even braved the snow to deliver condoms to her teenage daughter, who openly declared to her family that she planned to lose her virginity. LTW also made her way into the storm to attend an event honoring her work as a filmmaker, even carrying her wig through the snow.

Waiting for Aidan

With her mourning period apparently over after Big’s death, Carrie hit Aidan (John Corbett) with a classic “Hey stranger” email in season 2. The pair decided to reconnect, but at first, Aidan wouldn’t even step foot in Carrie’s apartment because it triggered bad memories. A compromise was reached, and Carrie shelled out for a new townhouse to please Aidan — who then told her to wait five years while he dealt with raising his sons in Virginia. For some reason, Carrie agreed, but the twosome still couldn’t make their relationship work in the end.

The Viral Plot Error

While season 3 aired in summer 2025, some viewers noticed a major plot hole, realizing that the show killed off LTW’s father twice. “Don’t forget he was already passed in season 1, and came for dinner in season 2, now he is gone again… not everyone gets that kind of second chance,” one social media user joked as the mistake went viral.

Entertainment Weekly later reported that the season 1 death referenced LTW’s stepdad, rather than her biological father, played by Billy Dee Williams in season 2.

Brady’s Baby

A twist none of Us saw coming emerged late into season 3, with Miranda and Steve’s son revealing that he got a girl named Mia pregnant. Steve became uncharacteristically aggressive during the heated conversation — even telling his son that he would “f***ing lay [him] out” — and Miranda wasted no time with slut-shaming. She later went out of her way to confront Mia at her place of work and question the baby’s paternity. Despite all of her seemingly progressive ideals and her own self-exploration, Miranda was stuck on what would happen to the “little boy or girl” after Mia gave birth.

“Little boy or girl?” Mia replied. “You’re so binary.”
