Let the rain fall down and wake our dreams, because Hilary Duff is finally making music again.

Duff, 37, announced on Tuesday, September 9, that she has signed with Atlantic Records for her “highly anticipated return to music.” She also has a docuseries in the works that will follow her “long-awaited musical return and personal journey, offering an unfiltered vignette into Hilary’s world,” per a press release.

“Embracing the ups, downs, and everything in between, fans will ride shotgun as she balances raising a family, recording new music, live show rehearsals and preparing to perform on stage for the first time in over a decade,” the release continues.

The docuseries (which doesn’t have a release date yet) will be directed by Sam Wrench, who previously helmed Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour film and Sabrina Carpenter’s Netflix holiday special, A Nonsense Christmas.

Duff last released an album — the grossly underrated Breathe In. Breathe Out. — in June 2015. While she has occasionally teased a return to music in the 10 years since then, fans haven’t received an official confirmation until now.

“I always am thinking about it,” the Younger alum told Access Hollywood in December 2023 when asked whether she had any plans to record new songs. “I never wanna blame my kids for this, but I’m so immersed in motherhood right now, and it’s so much easier to book an acting job and be like, ‘OK, I have to be at work at 6 a.m. and then I’m gonna be done by 9 tonight and then I’m gonna be home.’ I am in the middle of my real life, and that is very much a part of not my real life, like, from my past. So, I have to just figure out a way for those two things to meet.”

Duff went on to note that she felt like she would eventually have to give in to her instinct to return to the studio.

“I really do believe that I’ll just one day be like, ‘I have to do it,’” she explained. “There’s going to be something that comes over me, and just like, I have to do it. So, it’s gonna happen — I just don’t know when.”

Duff added at the time that she was flattered that “someone out there still wants to listen to my music.”

While music wasn’t part of the equation for the last decade, Duff has kept plenty busy since she last graced our headphones. She starred on the beloved TV Land comedy Younger from 2015 to 2021 before producing and starring in the Hulu series How I Met Your Father, which aired for two seasons from 2022 to 2023.

Duff has also been focused on raising her family with husband Matthew Koma, whom she married in 2019. The couple share daughters Banks, 6, Mae, 4, and Townes, 16 months. The Lizzie McGuire star also shares son Luca, 13, with ex-husband Mike Comrie.
