Jade Cline has more questions than answers regarding her recent health scare.
Following a brief hospitalization for a breast infection, the Teen Mom: The Next Chapter star is trying her best to feel better.
“Today, I went to the breast cancer and surgical center to get evaluated by a specialist,” Cline, 28, shared via TikTok on Tuesday, September 9, before being told it’s just a “random infection.”
“[My doctor] said it’s harder for antibiotics to get to your boob and your nipple,” she continued. “It’s farther away. … We still don’t know what caused it or why, and it’s still a surprise to me. I’m thanking God so much that it’s just an infection and not coming from something more serious. Thank God.”
Cline — who shares daughter Kloie, 7, with husband Sean Austin — first shared her health struggles over the weekend.
According to the MTV reality star, she began feeling pain in her breasts at the end of August.
“When I was in church on Sunday, all I could remember at the end of service was how bad my boob hurt,” she said via TikTok on Saturday, September 6. “And the pain didn’t go away. It progressively got worse. I could tell it was swollen. It was hurting, and no, I don’t have breast implants.”
While a doctor initially recommended antibiotics, the pain and discomfort continued. When she followed up, another health professional urged Cline to get additional care.
“My doctor tells me, ‘Yeah, it’s a severe infection.’ But she was like, ‘The medicine that the doctor gave you is not strong enough to deal with this type of infection and you’re borderline septic,’” Cline recalled. “So, she gives me basically what she says is the strongest antibiotic.”
According to the Mayo Clinic, sepsis is a serious condition in which the body responds improperly to an infection. The infection-fighting processes turn on the body, causing the organs to work poorly.
Patients are recommended to visit a health care provider if symptoms of sepsis — or an infection or wound that isn’t getting better — persist.
“[My doctor] was like, ‘There’s nothing you could have done or prevented it. It’s just a weird thing that can happen,’” Cline recalled. “I have to watch out for all the signs of being septic, which is terrifying. She was like, ‘If you are not better by end of day tomorrow, you need to check yourself into the emergency room and you’re going to have to undergo surgery.’”
Cline ultimately opted to visit the hospital. After agreeing to some ultrasounds, the reality star was told everything in her breast and tissue “looks fine.” She is continuing to take antibiotics and is hoping to feel better before a planned family trip on September 18.
“I just want to raise awareness to always take your health seriously even when things seem small,” Cline captioned one of her TikTok videos. “My pain tolerance is very high, and I push through life and go to work all the time no matter how I feel, and that’s just the type of person I am. I always just keep it moving, but this has really humbled me. Just praying that I do not have to undergo any surgery and this secondary medication I’m on does the job.”
