Ed Sheeran Reveals Why He’s Moving His Family From England to the U.S.

Despite growing up in England, Ed Sheeran and his family are planning a huge move across the pond to the United States.

“I’m just about to move to America. I feel like I might be the only person moving to America,” Sheeran, 34, said on “The 2 Johnnies Podcast” on Sunday, September 7. “I’m going on tour there for a while and I have a family, so I can’t dip in and out. We’re going and settling there.”

Sheeran currently resides in Suffolk with his wife, Cherry Seaborn, and their two daughters, Lyra, 4, and Jupiter, 2.

The “Shape of You” singer previously shared that Nashville was his “favorite city in the States” — and he could see himself living there one day.

“My end goal would be like, ‘I’m gonna move to Nashville and transition to country,’” Sheeran said on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast in April. “I think you just have to do it properly. It’s a genre you have to really respect. It’s not just a dip in and out.”

Sheeran noted that “when you transition to country, you can’t transition back.”

“Once you’re there, you’re there,” he added.

The musician and Seaborn, 33, met when they were kids in Sheffield, England, but didn’t reconnect until 2015 when a “mutual friend” brought them together.

“One of our best friends worked on my tour,” Sheeran told Us Weekly in March 2017. “So when we came to New York, where she was living at the time, we hung out and reconnected through our mutual friend. She’s great.”

The lovebirds tied the knot in December 2018 and went on to welcome Lyra in 2020, followed by Jupiter in 2022.

Following Lyra’s birth, Sheeran shared that fatherhood had given him a new direction in life outside of his career.

“I just found that I really didn’t have a purpose outside of [music] because when I was giving myself fixed time of no work, I wasn’t doing anything I enjoyed because I love doing music,” he said on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in December 2021. “And [being a dad] has actually given me purpose and something in life that’s actually more important than my job.”

While Sheeran keeps his family life relatively private, he does discuss his relationship in some songs, including “Perfect” on his Divide album.

“‘Perfect’ was the first song that I wrote for the album, it was inspired by Cherry,” he told Us in March 2017. “The line that goes, ‘Barefoot on the grass, listening to our favorite song’ was about when we were in Ibiza listening to Future’s ‘March Madness’ literally not wearing any shoes and going mental on the lawn, which was quite a nice time. I didn’t see her reaction to the song because she lived in New York at the time. So I just emailed it to her, but she did really like it.”
