Look Back at Liam Hemsworth's Dating History: Miley Cyrus and More

Having fun down under! Liam Hemsworth’s love life has been full of A-list romances, including a his whirlwind marriage to Miley Cyrus in 2018. Before gaining fame for his role as Gale Hawthorne in the Hunger Games franchise, Hemsworth turned heads for his and Cyrus’ relationship. The pair met while filming 2010’s The Last Song and got engaged two years later. The twosome experienced many ups and downs over the years, including a 2013 split before tying the knot in December 2018. The duo’s nuptials came just one month after they lost their Malibu home to a wildfire. Despite dating on and off for nearly a decade, their relationship fizzled out by August 2019 and Hemsworth filed for divorce. Several years after the She's the Man star was seen getting cozy with the Australia native at a Los Angeles nightclub, she admitted her crush. Bynes tweeted in June 2013, "Liam Helmsworth [sic] is the most gorgeous man on the face of the earth other than [actor] Tanz Watson. FYi!"

Cyrus and Hemsworth met on the set of 2010's The Last Song and started dating shortly after. They were in an on-again, off-again relationship for several years before the Hunger Games actor popped the question in June 2012, after which the Hannah Montana alum said she felt like “all my dreams are coming true.” 

However, the couple called off their engagement in September 2013 before reconnecting two years later. They eventually got married in an intimate Nashville ceremony in December 2018. Eight months later, Hemsworth filed for divorce. The terms were finalized in February 2020.

Around the time that his engagement was called off, Hemsworth started pursuing the Mad Men actress. A source told Us Weekly in September 2013 that the Independence Day: Resurgence star was "all over" Jones at a Hollywood house party in the summer of 2013, while he and Cyrus were having problems in their relationship. The insider added at the time, "January consoled him." 

One day after Cyrus and Hemsworth's split was confirmed, the Isn't It Romantic star was photographed kissing the Baby Driver actress in Los Angeles. The Aussie actor wrapped his arms around Gonzalez as they passionately kissed in a parking garage after a day of running errands. Prior to the makeout session, a source told Us that Hemsworth was ready to start over without the Disney Channel alum. The insider explained, "[Liam] is over [Miley] and wants to make a clean break. No more back and forth."

Dobrev and Hemsworth were both living in Atlanta as they filmed The Vampire Diaries and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, respectively, when they allegedly met up and got quite friendly. An eyewitness reportedly saw them hanging out in a bar in February 2014 and were acting like a couple. "They stayed around two to three hours and Nina left before Liam, and as she was leaving they gave each other a good night kiss," Celebuzz reported at the time. "The kisses were on the lips publicly outside of the bar … and it was three sensual kisses on the lips."

Hemsworth found love with this Greta actress after they met on the set of Independence Day: Resurgence. A source told Us in September 2015 that the Dressmaker actor was "all over [Monroe]" at a director Roland Emmerich's July 4 party, adding, "His hand was on her butt as she was grinding into him and they were making out at the bar." A second source revealed that the pair were "not official ... but their chemistry is ridiculous!"

Hemsworth was spotted holding hands with the Dynasty star in October 2019 — two months after filing for divorce from Cyrus after nearly eight months of marriage. The Independence Day: Resurgence actor and Brown took a stroll through NYC’s West Village neighborhood before dining at Italian restaurant Sant Ambroeus. A source previously told Us that the Aussie actor was “open to meeting people” following his split from Cyrus.

The Killerman star sparked romance speculation with Brooks in December 2019 after the pair were spotted out with his parents in Australia. The twosome kept their relationship as under wraps as possible, but fans did get a peek inside their life as a couple via Hemsworth’s family’s social media accounts over the years.

Brooks gushed about her “great” boyfriend and his family in a 2021 interview with Stellar magazine. “They are the most beautiful people and I'm very lucky to know them,” she said of the Hemsworths.

In September 2025, Brooks announced her engagement to Hemsworth by sharing a photo of her diamond ring via Instagram.
