Nina Dobrev and Shaun White hinted at their mindset trying to plan a wedding two months before their breakup made headlines.
“When you’re getting married and building a house in the same year,” Dobrev, 36, captioned a July 7 TikTok video of herself, standing in an unfinished property.
In the clip, Dobrev lip-synched the question, “How much do we have left?”
White, 39, replied, mouthing, “40 bucks.”
Dobrev and White got engaged in October 2024 after four years together.
“I went into shock. I just froze and stared at him,” the Vampire Diaries alum recalled to Vogue in October 2024, joking that she blacked out during the proposal. “He said all the right things. … Eventually we realized — other than the caviar [Shaun set out] — we hadn’t eaten anything. So, we ordered Shake Shack and dumplings [from] the Golden Swan.”
After White popped the question with a five-carat oval diamond from Lorraine Schwartz, he and Dobrev weren’t in a rush to tie the knot.
“I really want to enjoy it and not rush that process,” Dobrev told E! News in March. “We’re just enjoying being engaged at this point and being in that sort of phase because a lot of your life is — you have a boyfriend for half of your life and then you have a husband for half of your life, but the fiancé period is very short. It’s so fun to say fiancé.”
According to Dobrev, her eventual goal was to make the nuptials “as low-impact as possible.”
Us Weekly confirmed on Thursday, September 11, that Dobrev and White called off their engagement. The pair, who have not publicly addressed their separation, were last spotted together at a farmers market in Los Angeles on August 31.
Weeks later, Dobrev stepped out solo at the Sunday, September 7, TIFF premiere of Eternity without her engagement ring.
“Here’s to Eternity ✨ #TIFF,” she wrote via Instagram afterward.
The day before, Dobrev cryptically posted a TikTok video about “fixing a man.”

“How do you sleep at night knowing people don’t like you?” she lip-synched in the footage. “With no underwear, in case they wanna kiss my ass.”
The audio continued, “What’s your advice for women trying to fix their man? Listen, Bob the Builder, he’s got 10 other women trying to fix him too, and you all look like a damn construction crew.”
Shortly before Dobrev’s TikTok video, she also uploaded a photo dump via her Instagram that included a pic with White.
