The man who killed Nicki Minaj’s father in a hit-and-run hired an investigator to track her down to serve her court documents, Us Weekly can exclusively report.
According to court documents obtained by Us, Charles Polevich, who served jail time for fatally striking Minaj’s 65-year-old father, Robert Maraj, in 2021, revealed he is struggling to serve the star because he claimed her L.A. home was “abandoned.”
Polveich, who pleaded guilty to two charges over the incident, is fighting Minaj’s mom, Carol Maraj, in a wrongful death lawsuit she brought over her husband’s death.
Carol demanded a hefty judgment against Polevich for losing out on Robert’s “comfort” and “companionship.”
Polevich dragged Minaj, 42, into the legal battle when he demanded she sit for a deposition. He pointed to lyrics in her songs that spoke about her childhood. Carol has opposed Minaj having to be deposed. She claimed the request was “unnecessary and borderline harassment for the family.”
The court ruled Polevich had a right to seek Minaj’s deposition.
In recent court filings, it was revealed that Polevich hired investigators in California and New York to find Minaj. He claimed Carol told his team she did not know her daughter’s address.
Polevich said he hired a process server who drove out to Minaj’s’s $20 million mansion in Hidden Hills, California. The process server allegedly learned Minaj had “abandoned the premises and no longer resided there.”
He hired another process server to locate Minaj at her residence in New York. He said they came into contact with her husband, Kenneth Petty, but he refused to accept service.
Polevich demanded more time to serve Minaj personally.
Carol said it has been four years since the tragic accident that took her husband’s life, and she wants the case to move forward.
Her lawyer said Polevich had “ample time” to depose Minaj but has yet to do so.
On July 30, the judge presiding over the case ruled that Polevich will have another 60 days to figure out how to find Minaj, and then the case will move forward.
As Us previously reported, Minaj’s father was killed by Polevich in February 2021 while crossing the street in Long Island. Polevich hit Robert with his 1992 Volvo Station Wagon.
Minaj’s father was rushed to the hospital but did not survive. Polevich was accused of leaving the scene of the accident and driving home.

Prosecutors alleged he covered the vehicle with a tarp. The police tracked down Polevich by using security footage.
Polevich pleaded guilty to charges related to leaving the scene and tampering with evidence. His lawyer argued Polevich may have had a medical issue that caused him to not be aware of his decision to leave the scene.
Polevich was ordered to serve one year in jail, pay a $5,000 fine and had his driving privileges suspended for six months. He was released after serving his time.
